Every time I read the “Toph is a bad example of a disabled character because of her bending.” I want to Physically leap over a table and then flip that table because NO!!!! You do not understand!!!

Toph’s bending is assistive technology!!! It’s a medical aid!!!!!

Toph’s bending allows her to full access her world the same way my mobility aids do, or my medication does. There are times when due to inaccessible surroundings that her aids are rendered harder or impossible to use. Not unlike my own greatest enemy, stairs. However, when she is fully accommodated she’s able to be just as successful and thrive just as much as an able-bodied person albeit differently. Which is the ultimate goal of assistive technology.

Toph’s parents also tried to limit her bending because they saw her as dependent upon them, which is a great example of how society denies disabled people access to assistive technology.

wired: katara’s painted lady and aang’s kuzon are parallels because they are disguises used to help fire nation citizens in need. ultimately broadening their understanding of the fire nation, the affects of war, and what is important in order to heal the world. accordingly, zuko’s blue spirit and toph’s blind bandit are parallels because they are disguises used by the children of nobility to escape the watchful eyes of their caretakers and anonymously accomplish things for themselves.

ok wait so once toph invents metalbending do you think she ever pranks sokka by bending his boomerang just enough so it’s slightly off but not noticeable enough for sokka to tell?? so then when sokka throws his boomerang it doesn’t go where he expected it to and it makes him really confused??? he can’t figure out what happened to his aim and toph is just laughing her ass off in the background ?

or like, Sokka throws it, but Toph bends it mid air and the whole trajectory changes. or maybe she just completely changes the course and Sokka’s just there like, “what.”
