aang (& by extension, kataang) headcanon:
aang genuinely doesn't have any expectations for his children in terms of bending. with bumi it's simply because 1) he's just so happy to be having a kid w katara he honestly just wants the kid to be happy & healthy and 2) they already have quite a lot of bending in their lives and he knows tons of great nonbenders, so it's okay either way if their kid has bending or doesn't! they'll be great no matter what! and after bumi kya being a bender is a fun surprise and then when tenzin turns out to be an airbender aang straight up cries because he's already so happy with what he has and yet he's been given a kid to pass on airbending to (bc although he's taught many people what he can about the culture, he hasn't been able to teach anyone actual airbending and that opportunity is more than he ever thought he'd have and it makes him so happy).
