tom’s absolutely right harry is insane for bringing his daughter on a mission to the scary dino planet but idk what he expected from a man whose mentor was captain kathryn “child endangerment” janeway. also harry’s so funny here being like “well i knew your marriage was gonna fall apart eventually but i have my own life soooo…”

they’re so nagging wife and action movie hero coded here. “why did you bring my baby to the dino war” “ummm because you were too busy dealing with your feelings plus also kids love dinos?? she loves it here?? c’mon live a little”

tom and b’elanna self care: child abandonment

harry self care: child endangerment

Yknow, deep space nine handles a lot of really heavy subject matter. But voyager is Fucked Up. Like, ds9 is about the horrors of war & in voy shit will just happen. People say voyager is the darkest star trek series and that doesn't feel quite right to me because ds9 is About War and the aftereffects thereof but there's definitely something happening on voyager. It has a really different vibe about it. Ds9 is dark but voyager is scary

Ds9 handles its subject matter gracefully and voyager Does Not. Shit just happens on voyager. You watch an episode of voyager and you say What the fuck? & the episode ends and they never talk about it again

[ID: a reply from @bonecouch that reads, "in this way voyager reminds me more of tos than any other star trek spin off" /end ID]

Oh now there's a take. I think you're onto something. Janeway definitely has a Kirk energy about her & the episode structure is pretty close to the tos formula of going to a place and something fucked up happening and leaving. It just feels slightly *off* though in a way that's hard to pin down... tos was entirely episodic so you don't really *expect* things to be brought up again, but voyager does have a level of continuity, so they kind of leave you waiting. Sometimes things come back later but a lot of it Doesn't. It's all very strange

there’s something so messed up in how we’ve seen the breaking apart of the voyager family only out of the corner of our eyes in both picard and prodigy. seven gets rejected to the academy. chakotay goes missing. by picard seven isn’t on speaking terms with them anymore. i don’t know if we exactly need a proper followup to what happened to the voyager crew, but every time we meet a character who was from voyager you can just feel they have a hole in their heart where the voyager family used to be and it’s heartbreaking

i want to see post-voyager voyager content so bad because i want to see them all grapple with reconciling the idealized version of the federation they’ve built up in their minds with the reality of it and i also want to see them all be complete social pariahs who can only relate to each other because they’re the only ones who understand what they’ve been through and i also want to see them struggle to move on because how do you even begin to live a normal life after that

alternate voyager season 7 that’s actually good where they get back to the alpha quadrant within the first few episodes and the rest of the season is devoted to what happens after their return. i’m imagining it

the fucking insane conversations janeway would be having with her crew sitting in voyager’s mess hall watching earth from the windows. was it worth it? what’s next for us? she and harry wondering if they can still in good conscience call themselves starfleet officers after being isolated from starfleet for so long. yes everyone’s telling them that they are but can they really believe it themselves? after everything they’ve done? after what starfleet’s become, post-dominion war? the maquis crew grappling with the fact that they’ve come home to the same thing they used to be fighting against. the doctor and seven grappling with the fact that this place was never even home to begin with, just a story, a dream, a glimmer in the eyes of their crew members. all these people expected to be on voyager for pretty much the rest of their lives and now they’re home so what comes next for them?

and that’s just scratching the surface! what about suspicions from section 31? conspiracy theories about changelings or the borg? the implications of the technology and knowledge they brought back with them? how is voyager being reported on in the news? how are they being memorialized? there’s just so much there and it’s all fascinating!
