He had to comment to show that everything is fine, his feelings aren't actually hurt and his stans don't need to jump to his defence. We all know they wouldn't back off if he haven't showed up. Unlike prequel-gate, he didn't send them after his friends, I bet he didn't even know what was going on at first.
