summary: A jealous Oikawa thinks that running away and ignoring the problem is the same as solving the problem or the problem not existing.
a/n: This was an extra scene from Part 2. I intended to include it in Part 3 but it didn’t fit in with the narrative. So here’s a bonus chapter! But also please accept this as an apology for being late to the updates. 🙇♀️

Ten years ago, May — two weeks before the Inter-high
“Hey Y/N! Kiyoshi’s here.” Iwaizumi called from the front of the gym.
Y/N turned her head, seeing him waving at her with his bright grin. She caught a rolling volleyball and threw it over to the other side of the net. “I’m almost done here, Shouta-kun.”
Outside of her peripheral vision stood Oikawa, whose face contorted in a mix between mild annoyance to deep disappointment. It’s been a few weeks since his encounter with Y/N and neither of them have talked about what happened since. He still remembers the warm feeling of having her wrapped up in his arms, the gentle touch of her fingers on his chest, her lips inches away from him, and the unfortunate interruption from same guy grinning in front of the gym doors.
A week ago he was wondering if there was anything between her and Kiyoshi, and now that he has his answer, he’s all the more reluctant to accept it. He’s even more unwilling to accept it even after seeing the two of them leave school together everyday, fuelling the rumours that they were most likely dating each other.
Well, he only has himself to blame, really. After the run-in with Kiyoshi, he’s been hellbent on ignoring Y/N. The only time they interacted with each other since that night was during practice—and even then, he kept everything strictly professional around her. The other third-years started getting concerned when he stopped complaining to them whenever Y/N was seen with Kiyoshi, but he kept insisting that everything was fine and that he finally just accepted things as they were.
