There is something going on with Noya, but you can’t figure out what it is. Perhaps, you do know why he’s acting strangely, but you are not sure what he is exactly doing differently. Ever since the two of you saw the nth negative result on the pregnancy test, something has shifted between the two of you. It’s as if something has changed.
Don’t get him wrong. Noya is still the sweetest husband you could ever have. However, there’s just something different between the two of you. You two seem to just stop doing it even if you’re ovulating. He’s still there giving you the most breathtaking kisses and touches, but in terms of making out for a goal seems to just fade away eventually.
You wanted to talk to him about this sudden change, but then the Christmas season came. You two went to your province to spend your Christmas with your family. All is well with your family. In fact, they love your husband for being such a sunshine and helpful as well. Though, days before Christmas day, something is off.
Sometimes early in the morning, you find Noya’s side of the bed empty. Though, it takes about two hours before you find him lying back down beside you. Then, you’ll suddenly feel your husband’s arm pull you close and his hand resting on your stomach. You do want to ask where he’s going, but drowsiness gets to you.
It goes on for several days and it’s been bothering you. Your parents aren’t mentioning anything at all. Therefore, you let one night be a sleepless night just waiting for Noya to suddenly get up from bed. However, sleep blankets you. Though, luckily you feel your husband getting up from bed. Your eyes immediately shoot open and you turn to find Noya getting clothes from the cabinet.
“Sweetie, what are you doing?” you asked as you sat up. Noya stills for a moment before turning to you.
“Go back to sleep, baby,” he said with a smile as if trying to hide something.
“You expect me to sleep now after finding out that you’re going somewhere this early morning. Where are you going?” you stand up from the bed and walk to him.
“Just…um…well…I’m going to the church,” he said.
“Church? Are you participating in the simbang gabi?” you raised your eyebrows. You know that your parents attend the simbang gabi. You and Noya also do not really attend. Well, you did attend from time to time, but not like the others who complete the whole Simbang Gabi masses.
“Um…yeah,” he looks down as if it’s something he’s guilty of, but you knew there’s something more.
“We can go on the last day. You had very stressful months at work. You should rest. Did mom and dad ask you to come with them?” you try to look in his eyes as if trying to find the answers.
“No. No. I wanted to go,” he said. He’s quiet for a moment and you notice how he’s gripping his shirt tight.
“Noya, you’re scaring me. Why are you acting like you did something wrong?” you asked.
He then immediately looks up at you. Then, you see the tears in his eyes. “I-I did something wrong. Yes. I…I couldn’t even give you a baby,”
Your heart then stills. “What?”
“Your mom and dad told me that completing the Simbang Gabi means that my wish would be fulfilled. So…I thought if I do that…maybe…maybe I can give you a baby,” a tear then falls down his cheek. So, this is what has been going on.
You can’t help but feel your heart break at the guilty look your husband is making. You feel guilty for not noticing this self-blame your husband is going through.
Without a thought, you pull him in a tight hug. “It’s not your fault, Noya. It’s never your fault,” you pull away for a moment to look at his eyes. You wipe away the tears falling across his cheeks.
“It’s been a year, y/n. There must be something wrong. Maybe there’s something wrong with me,” Tears continue to flood his eyes as he looks at you.
“Sweetie, listen to me,” you cup your hands on his cheeks. “Do not blame yourself for this. We’ve already gone to the doctor, right? She said there’s nothing wrong. It really just takes time. We just have to be more diligent in…doing it when I’m mostly ovulating,” you caress his cheeks.
“It just takes time, love,” you lean forward to give him a quick kiss on the lips.
Noya stays silent for a while and closes his eyes before looking back at you.
“I just…it hurts me when I see the pain in your eyes whenever we look at the pregnancy test. I just…I felt like-” you stop him by kissing him softly on the lips.
“No matter how many negative pregnancy tests we get, it will never be your fault. I will never blame it on you. We just have to try still. If things still don’t work, we go back to the doctor again,” you said.
Noya then nods his head and immediately engulfs you in a tight hug. “We’ll try again…for you, for us,” he mumbles against your neck.
A small smile forms on your lips and immediately soothes him on his back. After a while, you pull away from him and head to the cabinet.
“You go ahead and get ready. I’ll come with you this time, okay?” you said and turned to him.
He smiles and nods his head.
At that, you complete the simbang gabi masses in the hopes that your wish will come true. A wish to finally have a family of your own.
Am I crying? Shamelessly.
Noya is so damn precious, I want to protect him at all costs... GOSH HE IS AMAZING AND I JUST know that he will be an amazing father and husband (uncle too)
