Fanfic tiktok is wild... I see so many people saying shit like "I could never read anything below 60k!!", or "What story can you even tell in under 5k words?" or "A oneshot below 10k isn't even a story!" or "I always filter completed fics by 100k< only!"

And I'm like...

A) which fandoms are you reading fics for where you have this kind of offerings on the regular?

B) have you heard of short stories? If you truly think every story NEEDS to be longform to connect with people, I sincerely feel sorry for you.

C) Average novel length is between 50k to 100k. I'm sorry, but CONSISTENTLY demanding fic writers to push out fics of that length is insane. Just think about it: YOU DEMAND AUTHORS TO PUT OUT FICS THAT COMPARE TO COMMERCIAL NOVELS IN LENGTH (AND QUALITY) AS A BASELINE.

Yall are wilding.

You can do things with a short story that will lose all meaning if they're dragged out in 10 chapters. Those people wouldn't know good writing if it smacked them on the head with an iron cast pan.

Some people prefer 50k+ stories, I do as well, doesn't mean less than 50k or 100k+ stories are bad like ever heard of SHORT STORIES??? not novellas or novels, just stories...

Like sometimes, a 500 word story will move you've reached heaven please!! And sometimes 50k words story will feel like "why tf I'm wasting my time here" Just, let people write whatever they want, especially when it's fanfic, they don't owe you anything, read whatever you want to read, basically please adopt the policy of live and let live lmao

I really don't understand why people think it's incestuous only when it's about people from the same gender and never incestuous when they're from the opposite gender.

Like honestly these people will ship Snily and Harmoni or whatever even though there's no mention of snape's romantic love and is only implicated and Harry himself denied anything and even said that "Hermione is like my sister, I thought you knew that" Yes readers, we thought you knew that... Look one half of your oh 'one true love' himself is declaring your ship an incest.
