@sponfawn why bring this up tho if you’re not blaming the victims? theres quite literally no reason to point this out. Bowie fucked minors and he never said anything against the allegations. a young girl wearing makeup to look older still looks like a young girl. also, those “cultural elements” are still in place. pedophiles in power have been encouraging this kind of thing forever.
like, I honestly don’t understand why youd reply to a post talking about Bowie being a pedophile with “well the culture encouraged it at the time!!!!” if ur not trying to excuse him or blame the victims for “approaching sexual predators”
he was a rock star they looked up to and he used that power to take advantage of them. they didn’t know he was a sexual predator and they were KIDS approaching a man they admired. they did nothing wrong, even if they overtly flirted/stated they wanted to have sex it is still NOT THEIR FAULT because they were children and Bowie was a fully grown adult and he should have fucking known better
I was not victim blaming. I literally said culture made it more unsafe for girls and encouraged kids to approach sexual predators, which is in no way the fault of kids who can't consent. It is on adults' shoulders to not fucking molest children. I literally said Bowie is shit trash. And a pedophile. The point of talking about the culture is to see a more complete picture put in cultural and historical context, which I think makes it more fucked up, cuz people like him were (and are) so enabled to abuse and prey upon literal children. I think context is really important. It helps us draw parallels to our current society, and see how those similarities can be incredibly damaging and toxic. I can see upon rereading it was poorly worded, and I apologize for that. People usually say I ramble too much so I've been working with my therapist in trying to cut down my word count, and clearly I fucked up with this one. But my intention was to point out that Bowie was only one of way too many predators who no doubt took advantage of these girls who didn't know better and couldn't consent. Bowie was a terrible symptom of a greater disease that we still haven't gotten rid of
