The only redeeming of this outfit, for me, is the cut of the top. The print on the pants is horrifyingly ugly; their cut is inoffensive, they just look comfy. The full horror of the print might not be so apparent were it not for how badly its colours clash with those of the top. In fact, the top somehow contrives to make it look as if a) Julian is wearing a girl’s tank-style swimsuit yet b) this isn’t cute at all.

What is the point of the different-coloured stripe running around his chest? Marina Sirtis really disliked a couple of the early one-piece pantsuits Deanna Troi wore in TNG because they had a V-shaped contrasting belt section over the hips and tummy that highlighted exactly the area where she tended to feel fat. (She was not remotely fat, but we all have our own bodily insecurities and it’s true that those suits were not at all becoming or stylish - she looked good because she was va-va-voom beautiful, not because she was well dressed.) This contrasting stripe seems to be doing a similar evil deed in highlighting the complete flatness of Julian’s chest. ‘Here, look closely at the pectoral muscle development I don’t have!’

I have somehow lost the gif I have of Bashir in this outfit petulantly asking ‘Why!?’ but it exactly expresses my feelings about this outfit as a whole. 

I will substitute this.

This is probably one of the reasons Leeta dumped bashir. She dresses rather well IMO for a beach outing, maybe even a bit fancy and then her comes her dopey doe-eyed boyfriend looking like he stepped off a Cirque du Soleil act not really remembering that they also patio dinner reservations at a very public restaurant.

10 to 1 Bashir also packed Kukalaka.
