possibly one of the most hilarious exchanges on doctor who

Honestly all the conversations between the Daleks and Cybermen in this episode were fucking gold

I know nothing about Doctor Who lore but I feel like the Cybermen and the Daleks are both the descendents of two exes who both designed robots.

You haven’t even seen the best one yet (or at least, it wasn’t in this reblog chain):

My favorite experience on the internet was the time I saw a lesbian on a doctor who forum make a thread about her desire to see “a lesbian dalek.” There was this one dude who got SO ANGRY about it that she and a bunch of other users pulled up a bunch of references proving that Daleks have a concept of gender and use gendered language to identify one another, and how some Daleks (like the Cult of Skaro) are designed to understand and weaponize human emotion, and made this really compelling argument that a lesbian Dalek could exist without violating any of the show’s canon

And the dude just got like really upset and was finally like “HOW WOULD SHE KNOW WHICH OTHER DALEKS ARE WOMEN, THEY ALL WEAR IDENTICAL CASINGS” and this one poster who hadn’t said anything up to this point just said “you know other species besides daleks have women too” and he literally just responded with “AAAAAAAAARGH”

The best part though was that this dude clearly read every single thread on the board (and corrected everyone who said anything about anything), so this lady would occasionally mention her “lesbian Dalek OC” in passing and within a few hours he’d show up with an all-caps, multi-paragraph, misspelled, profanity-laden rant about how there can’t be a lesbian Dalek and how she should stop punishing him for “being a heterosexual”

there are only two good scenes with daleks in the entirety of doctor who

one of them is the scene where the ninth doctor angrily demands that a dalek he believes to be the last in the world just die already, so he can finally be rid of them. it’s a bitter, tense scene as the traumatised, angry last survivors of a horrific genocidal war confront each other in mutual hatred, and the doctor has to face up to the fact that yes, he is willing to kill and to destroy, the traits he hates most in the daleks, and how different really does that make him from them?

the other is when the first doctor sees an empty dalek casing in a museum and immediately gets in and pretends to be a dalek

You’re forgetting this scene

Resurrection of the Daleks - season 21 - 1984

“Up on the second floor two ‘stunt’ Daleks are awaiting their cue. Unlike their brethren, these Daleks are not made from wood and fibre-glass — they are elaborate constructions of expanded polyurethane foam, cast from the same moulds as the live Daleks. They are much lighter in weight and hollow inside. Into each of these hollows has been packed a quantity of explosive material. A tiny, thin wire emerging from the base will, on cue, detonate these charges. This is why the casings are of foam — though the charge is estimated not to be too powerful, it will explode. There must be no danger of flying material likely to cause harm, especially since Peter Davison and Janet Fielding will be involved in this scene, with literally a bird’s eye view of the event.

Carefully, the Visual Effects Designer, Peter Wragg, checks the length of wire that will detonate the explosives; it is long enough to reach almost to the ground from the loading bay door. At the end of the wire is a pin connected to the charges inside the Dalek. When the wire goes taut it will pull the pin out, allowing two sprung connectors to come together. And when that hap- pens, Bang!!!”
