the usage of the world "pics" is bugging me for Time Magazine. Oh I don't doubt they'd highlight a famous photographer to sell more issues its the word instead of photos or "as photographed" or "as seen by" or "documented by"

Exactly, “pics” is casual and unsuited to both the type of magazine and the subject matter - that’s very mildly annoyed me when I’ve been reminded of it for years.
