Ah the Carter Special makes its debut (basically the Iraq war made getting blanks for the P90 hard to get)
Although the stargate wiki states it was the gun itself they couldn’t get during this time, the commentary clearly states its the ammunition (shell casing, specifically).
some gun talk below, via stargate wiki.... fandom....whatever:
Felcan Enterprises, the armorers who supplied firearms to the show, assembled the weapon by using parts from three different weapons.
The base weapon is an Olympic Arms K23B "Stubby" carbine with a 7.25" barrel, much shorter than that of a Colt CAR-15 or Colt M-4 Carbine. The stock is an aftermarket Bell & Carlson Model #6906-02 Black Textured Synthetic Thumbhole Buttstock. The weapon's fore-end uses Bushmaster's proprietary four-direction Picatinny rail interface and usually mounts a tactical vertical grip. An ELCAN C79 or M145 3.4x28 after-market reflex optical sight is shown mounted on the Picatinny rail atop the receiver. Carter almost exclusively uses a 100-round Beta C-Mag with this weapon, but it will accept any M16/ M4 magazines.

That wasn’t supposed to happen.
Bonus: Amanda Tapping’s gets a real scare when the prop goes off unexpectedly.
