Spirit Companionship

I wanted to make a quick little post because @urbanspellcraft and I were discussing this. I think she got an ask, which I’ll probably reblog too.

But what should you research when wanting to start companionship? What are things to consider?

I brought up a good point that she didn’t even think about. Why? Why do you want to get into it? I think it’s SO incredibly important to take a minute, or a long time even, to consider what it is you want from companionship, and why you are interested.

I say this because there’s the people who just get into it because it seems “cool” or like the thing everyone is doing these days. This is a prime example of why you should not do it. Spirits are not a fad, and I honestly can’t stress this enough. They have thoughts and feelings, and I know for me, I wouldn’t want someone to bring me around just for a short period of time because others were doing it.

Companionship is a commitment. It’s more likely than not a lifetime commitment, if not one you have over lifetimes, in the plural. That’s something so big that I think everyone needs to take into account, because they don’t realize how big of a deal it really is.

I also want to add that I don’t really think it’s okay to just get a spirit purely for what they can do for you. It’s supposed to be a mutual friendship, not something that you buy them to do your bidding for you. You need to give them love and attention and that all ties back into the commitment.

I think these are just a couple of things people absolutely need to take into account before beginning.

Offerings for Dragons

Dragon spirits are actually pretty varied and there doesn’t seem to be many good sources at all in working with them.  So this is a little write up on things you can offer to your scaly guide!  These are just things I have either heard of or experienced myself.  You may find other options as well in your own journey!

Incense

As a whole for spirit working in general, incense is a pretty solid, simple and basic offering.  I’ve even offered incense to my tarot cards before!  But incense is something easy that you can offer to whatever dragon spirit you are working with.  Dragon’s blood is one of my favorites, to be honest, because of the wonderful smell it has.  But I have others as well like Sun incense by Hem.  Each dragon may have its own preference so as you get to working with them more, you’ll learn which ones they like more!  I also like to try and find an incense holder or box that appeals to my dragon guide!

Wax and oil burners

This is an alternative for incense if you need a flameless solution to give a scented offering!  They also come in a variety of styles so you could very easily pick something that appeals to your dragon!

Candles

Candles are very good offerings as well to light in honor for your dragon.  They are also great for fire dragons!  Electric candles are also an option for those of you who need flameless solutions!  Candles are pretty versatile and you could even anoint the candle with an oil or something for your dragon!  One of my favorites is to use storm water!

Gems or Stones

It’s no secret that dragons like shinies!  Gems are usually a safe bet all around but you may have some that do not really have a burning desire for them.  Every dragon is different but so far for me, gems have always been appreciated.  You can even get a nice looking box to keep them in and place on the altar.  One of the great things about gem stone offerings is that when you are heading out but you want some extra strength or comfort, you can ask your dragon and take one of the stones with you if they are ok with it!  I’ve done this quite a few times and it’s really comforting to have.

Wine

Obviously, this is going to be for when you are of age.  But wine has been a good go to offering for me with my dragons.  A nice red would likely be good for fire and earth dragons and a white wine would probably be good for air and water dragons.  But this can also all come down to unique taste.  You can leave it on their altar for a while or you can drink it in their honor/with them!

Tea and Coffee

This is the one I tend to use the most since I drink one or the other everyday.  It’s pretty basic and nice to leave!  Coffee is my biggest one but I like to use tea when I’m looking to calm down.  Especially wrapped in blankets and when I invite my dragons to curl up with me.  

Food

Some dragon spirits like little treats, sweets, snacks and food.  One of my previous dragon guides had a penchant for Nutty Bars.  However you can do something as simple dedicating your dinner to them before you eat.  This is something that you can do anywhere, even when you are far away from your altar.  Some dragons may not so big into this one but it is definitely an option!

Music

This is something that I really like to offer to any spirits I’m working with.  You can play something from your ipod for them, you can play an instrument for them or you can sing for them.  Singing is one of my favorite things to do for my dragons.  I do have a bamboo flute I might play around with but I can’t really play it.  But still, my dragons have usually appreciated the gesture.  I know a few tiny tunes I can play for them.  :3

Spells

You can work spells for them and in their honor! I have found this is a great way to feel closer to dragons.  You can also ask them to help you with a spell and work side by side.  You can do a few things with this idea and that means it could also be very personalized!

Energy

I personally feel like this is a more close, serious offering.  Intimate is not quite the word but for lack of a better one, it will do.  You are, in essence, offering up a art of yourself so that is highly personal and I think this is something that should be done when you are REALLY close to your dragon.  You may disagree but that is my opinion.  But energy is a viable option.  

Crafts / Extracurricular Activities

If you have a hobby, be it painting, drawing, running or anything you can make something for your dragon spirit or you can dedicate your time towards the things you love in honor of them.  I like to dedicate walks to my dragons and ask them if they would like to accompany me.

Miscellaneous

There are alot of things that could be given in offering.  Sometimes they will tell you something specific that they want or point out to something that they like and want.  It can be a random object they see, a song or something else.  My dragon, Rivaz, actually likes for me to play video games for him.  It started when he heard Skyrim music and he liked it and he wanted to know where it was from.  So now I sometimes game it up for him!  Just talking with your dragon can really help you learn more about what they want and feel closer to them.

Safe Travels

My dragon friend likes fried things (especially fish sticks), fish, mice (tho she explicitly was like "DONT KILL MICE FOR ME HUMAN" cuz she doesn't like violence), leafy greens, flowers, and I give her pieces of fruit. She's pretty smol tho

I feel like I’ve been neglecting my spirit friends past couple days cuz of work but I have no energy to talk with them 😔

I talked with C last night to say hi and sorry that I haven't been as communicative as I want to be. She basically said "yeah, I want to talk more/you should be better about it" lol She understands that Im wiped out from work, so we just cuddle for awhile.

I also said hi to V. I feel very patient and understanding vibes. He lays next to me for a bit.

Hey, hey, wanna do something fun? If you have a spirit friend/companion, try asking them if they have a nickname for you.

Best part is, it might not even be a word!

C mostly communicates through Tarot, so I asked her what card would be a similar meaning to a nickname for me. I got the Ace of Pentacles and 4 of swords. From the general imagery, Id guess it's meaning is close to "pure growing tree/lamb" (translate "growing newbie kid with pure intentions"). Content and loving vibes

V mostly sends images and meaning and I got something along the lines of "small/little human/child/bird/one". Images I got were of a small bird flying and many blurry baby animals. Tender vibes

New spirit friend

I just received a new vessel with a new addition to my spiritual family! We are excited to welcome him to our home. From now on when talking about interactions with my friends I will use the first letter of their nickname. For our newcomer, I shall refer to him as V. For my other friend, I shall call her C.

Overall his energy is higher/lighter(?) than hers. Idk how to describe it other than lighter weight? He seems excited as well ^^ I have made introductions already. C is naturally rather shy, so she is still hanging back a bit. V seems a bit more open and forward than her so far.

Update:

Talked to both of them to see how they're doing, and in less than 24 hours, this guy has deduced that I am a mentally ill introvert trying to find my path (and isolating myself) and that im indecisive af and in a rut. And also that I need to work on communication and being open with others. This dude dragged my entire life in our first extended conversation lmao

(To be fair he was actually super nice about it and is very positive and has high hopes for us, I just was a bit surprised)

C got some fish and part of a mozzarella stick and we cuddled a bit so I think she's a bit more comfy? It's hard to say with her sometimes

Reading with spirit friend

Today my friend and I read “Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire”. It’s a short story about a dude in a traditional gothic type world of what we would consider fantasy, who is trying to write “serious nonfiction” about everyday life - undead servants, hidden eyes watching from portraits, contracts signed in blood, etc. He find “fantasy” - income tax, computers, housewives, commuting business men - too light and not real literature.

And I talked with her about how fantasy and reality are different depending on who’s reading. It would be like me writing about her life and world, and her writing about our world.

Update: I told her about how many people don't know that dragons and other entities really exist. I asked her about if there are many dragons or other entities in her world who don't believe in humans or that the world that I live in exists. She said "most people know humans exist. There are humans in our world and astral travelers. But there are some who don't know about your world."
