i know michael and various angels are considered saints… but are there any other non-human saints ?
I’ve heard of a mermaid that’s a saint, (her name is St. Muirgen) as well as a greyhound (St. Guinefort).
But I think they became saints before the canonization process existed and have since been removed from the official list of saints.
removing them was dumb as hell. im going to cause a riot.
I think the official reason for their removal however, was not that they were non-human, but rather (like many other saints who were removed at the same time) there was not enough evidence to prove they existed.
That being said, I suspect that the real reason many of these saints were removed was, in part, that their veneration looked too much like paganism, magic, and superstition and the Church was uncomfortable with it.
Especially since some of the saints (like St. Christopher, St. Barbara, and even St. Guinefort) were and still are very popular saints.
So, yes, I agree. Removing them was a terrible choice.
