You, O Jesus, are the resurrection and the life, and even in Sheol I will not cease to give You praise:  Jesus, hope of those sentenced to death!  Jesus, resurrection of those who believe in Your word!  Jesus, song that no fear can silence!  Jesus, tranquility that no horror can shake!  Jesus, raise my eyes from death to see Your unfading Kingdom!  Jesus, fill my heart with the promise of Your unending life!  Jesus, radiant glory of those facing death!  Jesus, timeless boast of the martyrs!  Jesus, courage in the face of mortal danger!  Jesus, constancy before continual trial!  Jesus, divine glory, transfiguring the wounded hearts!  Jesus, victory of God, bringing the embattled home!  Jesus, light to those in darkness, glory to You!

There is an Easter Monday tradition in Hungary in which men pour water over women (originally unmarried women of marriageable age). The water-pouring ritual, along with the exchange of colored eggs, predates Christianity in Hungary but has become part of Easter tradition. It originally signified fertility.

my church is camping out for holy Saturday and Easter morning — our evening service is in an hour and then we will be up with the sun to rejoice.

i cannot think of many more fitting places to celebrate this transition into easter than this forest, where the ash trees were all felled a couple years back due to a beetle infestation. where their stark white bodies lie, white snowdrops spring up. all around saplings barely up to my waist have just started sprouting their yellow green buds.

life yields to death yields to life: hallelujah.

The cross and the pink triangle are both symbols of oppression that have been reclaimed as symbols of power. LGBTQ people are intimately aware of oppression and suffering, in our bodies and in our collective history. For those of us who have experienced a “closet,” that can feel an awful lot like Holy Saturday: we’ve begun to feel the pain of a world that does not fully accept us, but we’ve yet to fully experience the new life and freedom that awaits us.

In our pain, in our suffering, and especially today we remember that in our uncertainty, God is there too. Defeat seems to surround us, and like the first followers of Christ, we might not be certain about it… but Easter is coming!

For those that need a reminder.

Easter isn’t Pagan.

Ostara was a month ago.

That’s a relief of Lilith not Ishtar.

Ishtar has nothing to do with Easter.

No Ishtar isn’t actually said Easter.

Saying Easter is Pagan is erasure of Judaism and the Passover time.

Be a kind human.

Don’t spread misinformation.

?!?!?!?

Sorry, maybe I am misreading ?? but speaking of misinformation - what on EARTH do easter and LILITH and PASSOVER (Pesach) possibly have to do with each other??

Judaism =/= xtianity lite, thank.

Oh there is a picture that goes around this time of year of a relief of Lilith with crap over it saying it’s Ishtar which is pronounced Easter. That has nothing to do with Passover.

The reference to Passover is by saying that Easter is actually pagan erases the actual roots of Christianity which is Judaism as our savior was of that faith and a lot of our traditions stem from the traditions held by Jesus and the disciples . Though most traditions have been heavily mangled due to the separation of the denominations of churches and their need to separate themselves from each other. And the placement of Easter was not due to Ostara but because of Passover, to be an homage to the Old Testament and to say that Jesus was our sacrificial lamb to deliver us from sin and hell.

^^^ and also cuz the crucifixion of Jesus was done like right after Pesach in the Gospels.

Like, yes, modern Easter practices have a lot of old traditions and customs from (previously) pagan cultures. But that's what happens when a culture adopts a new religion (whether willingly or not). They bring their own traditions and cultural practices to the table. Then capitalism took those things and ran with it, with the commercialization of egg hunts and the Easter bunny. It is fair to say that modern Western Easter has pre-Christian/pagan influences in terms of more secularized traditions. But that is completely different from claiming that a religious institution decided to steal a pagan holiday and paste Jesus on top of it. For one thing, Easter isn't even on Spring Equinox. For another, Ostara as we know it today is highly influenced by Wicca, and is a very recent creation.
