The weekend came, and with it, the arrival of Lambert and Aiden’s monthly cookout. Even though it was November and practically snowing, Lambert didn’t cancel his cookouts for anything, everyone else’s feelings about that fact aside. (“Rain or fucking shine, Jaskier, I don’t give a fuck about something as trivial as the weather,” he’d sneered when Jaskier had bothered to ask, one day. He’d never questioned it again.) Jaskier and Eskel were going, as they always did, with the new development of needing to look like a couple. They’d decided today would be as good a test run as any in seeing if their relationship would pass as genuine. After all, who would be a better judge than their friends and family? 

It was a reasonable, terrible idea. Jaskier was absolutely shitting himself as he heard the knock on his door.

domestic/relationship situation prompts that make my heart warm:

  1. building a new piece of furniture from a flat pack together
  2. baking a new recipe together
  3. playing a competitive video game together (may i suggest mariokart)
  4. painting their nails 
  5. bringing them their favourite hot drink in bed
  6. reading to them late into the night
  7. sleeping in and cuddling the entire morning
  8. going clothes shopping and trying on outfits for an event they’ll be attending together
  9. preparing/packing for and going on a picnic 
  10. doing laundry
  11. making them tea/coffee (exactly how they like it)
  12. saying goodbye over and over because they keep forgetting things and coming back
  13. leaving notes for them around the home
  14. repairing a broken appliance 
  15. changing the bedsheets
  16. exercising together
  17. deep cleaning the home
  18. deciding what takeout to order
  19. bingeing an entire season of a trashy reality show in one sitting together
  20. reorganising the bookshelf
  21. listening to them rant
  22. running them a bath with their favourite products 
  23. covering them with a blanket when they’ve fallen asleep on the couch
  24. going grocery shopping together (+ bonus: putting away the groceries)
  25. dancing in the kitchen whilst cooking dinner

The idea was absolutely ridiculous. Jaskier had truly outdone himself this time, really.

It had all started with Valdo fucking Marx, because of course it had. The idiot, for all that Jaskier found him lacking, could throw a decent party, and his Yule parties were all the rage. They’d been at a bar together with Essi, Shani, and Priss one evening. During a lull when the ladies had excused themselves to get refills, Valdo had turned to him with a sly smirk on his smarmy face.

“Julian, dear, you are coming to my party this year, right?”

It had been a very confusing week, to say the least.

It wasn’t that Eskel seemed… upset with him, per se. The other man was acting his normal self, mostly. They still went for Sunday brunch with Yen, Geralt, Lambert, Aiden, and Triss, like they did every week. When he got home late from one of his weekly gigs, there were still leftovers waiting for him in the fridge, just like always. He and his roommate-slash-friend still hung out whenever they could, staying up late sitting on the couch next to each other, chatting long into the night with matching mugs of tea. It was nice, peaceful, just like it’d always been.

So things were the same, really. Well. Except for a few new developments in their relationship lately.
