i am such a goddamn slut for a whumpee waking up in the late afternoon and the sun is setting and sunlight is streaming through their windows and the entire room is warm and lit up by golden light and they’re memories are foggy and they can’t quite remember how they got into this bed in the first place because this isn’t their room and their whole body hurts and they can remember being in intense pain but now the pain is just very dull and maybe they’re alone but maybe (!!!!!!) they turn their head and there sitting next to them in a chair is their partner, asleep because they’ve been helping the whumpee through their painful ordeal the night before and it’s finally caught up to them even though they were trying their best to stay awake incase the whumpee woke up in pain again and there’s this sense of calm in the room that the whumpee doesn’t know if they should trust because they don’t know what happened but they know it sure as hell wasn’t good and they try to sit up but moving hurts and they let out a small groan or whimper that wakes up their partner and at first they’re scared and anxious and ready to jump into action but when their eyes fall on the whumpee looking somewhat well rested their eyes just flood with relief and they breath out a soft and “hey”
Such a beautiful moment <3 After they’ve been through the wringer, that first time they wake up lucid and coherent, and they’re still aching and weak and shaky but they’re going to be OK. For now they can’t do much more than lie in bed or sit propped up with pillows and accept the simple comforts of being cared for. But there’s a pleasantness to it: the warm sunlight and clean sheets; cups of hot tea and spoonfuls of rich broth; soothing balm on wounds and cool cloths on bruises; the easy conversation with their friend, sometimes quiet and pensive, sometimes light and jesting. And in time their wounds will heal, they’ll regain their strength, and they will go back to adventures and heroics…
