Life isn't always perfect or fun or easy. Even though we always try to bring the funny, sweet and absurd things our little girl says to life, sometimes she says something that stops us in our tracks. A few weeks ago we were heading up to see my mom and Harper was so excited to see her Grandma and a few of her cousins. As we pulled into Grandma's driveway I heard a sniffle in the back of the car. I turned around and saw a tear in Harper's eye. I wasn't sure what was going on and said, "What's wrong honey? What happened?" She looked at me and simply said, "Dad, I'm just so happy. I'm lucky to have this life." I was having a bit of a hard day and she brought me out of my little funk and turned it all around in an instant. We are truly so lucky to have this life. Thank you Harper for reminding us not to take it for granted.
I was recently asked by Molly Cantrell of Columbia Station, OH. to create a print for her and her lovely family. She didn't quite know what she wanted but she knew she wanted her entire family represented in a fun and playful way. She told me that her son Issac loved his little owl and that he always talked of the "plane in the tree" that he saw once (a toy plane). She told me that her daughter Kate loved her purple sunglasses, kisses and to tell people "I like your face". Her husband Keith is a fun and playful dad and loves superheroes. I thought long and hard and decided to do my first Family Tree print and filled it with this awesome family and everything that they love. Thanks so much Cantrell Family!
Another custom order and what has turned out to be one of my favorites so far. Stacey McGill of Austin, Texas requested "Bird get down". Here is his explanation. Thanks Stacey! My kid is not 2 yet. We were outside about a month ago under a big oak tree in my front yard and there was a bird on the ground about 3 feet from us. All of a sudden, the bird flew up and landed in the tree. My kid looked up at the bird and said, "Bird, get down." This was her first sentence.
I also did a bit of a tribute to one of my favorites - Shel Silverstein - an (almost) all black and white version. I love them both!
