Happy 25th Anniversary (Sunday) "Clueless"!!!

In preparation for this print, we sat down last week and watched "Clueless" with Harper for the first time. Since then, I think she's watched it about eight to ten times - to the point where she literally said: "Ugh, as If, Dad" to me this morning. Haha. Loved this movie when it came out back in 1995 - I remember watching it over and over with all of my high school friends back in the day, and still love it today - laying around watching it with my family!

I never get tired of drawings dogs and the people that love them. A lifelong family friend of ours recently contacted me with a very special request. They had just lost one of their beloved dogs, Hammy, and their sweet daughter Addy is having a really hard time with it. Here's what her mom Erica requested:

"Hey Marty, I was wondering if you could do a drawing of Addy with Hammy?? She has been missing him a lot lately and thought a guardian angel pic of some sort would be awesome!! Maybe incorporate a cardinal too, every time she sees a cardinal she says it's Hammy!! And it would be really sweet if our other dogs, Cheif, Hulk and Bitsy found their way in the print!"

I loved drawing this print so much. I hope it makes you feel a little bit better Addy! I know Hammy is up there keeping a really good eye on you!

Well this is just about one of the best things I've ever had the pleasure to work on. It's for Jamie and her amazing daugher Teddi! Here's what Jamie said about the quote:

"This is my 4 year old's quote to me, and I just really needed to immortalize it and see it all the time... "If you're a hero to me, you can be a hero to yourself." Her name is Teddi, and she's my hero. ❤️"

Thank you so much Jamie and Teddi... you guys are my hero!

So apparently my family really really really needs to watch "The Greatest Showman" because it's just about all anyone can talk about lately. Including Nicole and her daughter Maya. This is one of the sweetest dang prints I've done in a long time. Here's what Nicole had to say:

"So, The Greatest Showman is our household's current favorite movie. More specifically, our 5 year old daughter's favorite movie. She loves to jam out to the soundtrack in the car. There's one specific scene that she REALLY enjoys. Apparently its because she's got a bit of a crush on Efron. There's a scene where Zac Efron and Zendaya sing "Rewrite the Stars" while Zendaya is practicing acrobatics (or trapeze, whatever you want to call it). In this song Zac sings the lyrics "What if we rewrite the stars? Say you were made to be mine. Nothing could keep us apart. You'd be the one I was meant to find. It's up to you, and it's up to me. No one can say what we get to be. So why don't we rewrite the stars? Maybe the world could be ours. So one day we were listening to this song and immediately after Efron sings those lyrics Maya says to me, "Mommy, that boy with the blue eyes? I'm the one he's meant to find." It was gloriously hilarious. I will never forget those words coming out of her mouth, so we need to get some commemorative art going on so we can display it to all the world - for the rest of her life."

Well, here you go girls! Maybe Zac will see this and send sweet little Maya his love!

Good friends of ours got married recently and I told the groom that I wanted to do some artwork for each of them as a gift. He and I have always shared a love of baseball and movies so I did a big old baseball print for him. When I was done I decided that doing a print just for him might be a little unfair to his lovely bride. So I asked him what some of her favorite things were. He listed off a handful of things and then said: "Oh, and she loves Stephen King!" I replied with: "Do you think she'd be cool with a Stephen King print for a wedding gift?" and he said: "Oh yeah, she'd totally love that!"

So here it is! The completed piece... and what's even better is that today is Stephen King's birthday! So Happy Birthday Stephen King and Happy Wedding to our great friends!

I've been recently working on a great big super duper Stephen King piece for a fun project and I thought I'd share one of my favorite drawings from it.

Movies will always be a huge love of mine and "Stand by me" is a one that I've seen way too many times to even count. It was one of my absolute favorites as a kid and these guys were way too much fun to bring to life!

(For those of you that might not know, "Stand by me" was written by Stephen King as a short story called: "The Body" and it's as amazing as the movie!)

Harper is always very intrigued when I do my tribute prints. She doesn't quite understand why I'm doing them and she's rarely heard of the person who I'm doing them for.

Last night as I worked on Burt Reynolds, she was very curious as to who this handsome mustachioed man was. I told her a little bit about him and we even watched a few clips from "Smokey and the Bandit". When we were done she totally "art directed" me, but in the sweetest way ever:

"Dad, I like the print you did, but I think it would be even better  if you made that funny man with the mustache and his cool car all the way up in Heaven with a great big pink sky and soft fluffy clouds!" So, obviously, I went back to the drawing board!

Today would have been Michael Jackson's 60th birthday!

We've always sorta had his music playing off and on while Harper has grown up, but just recently she's really gotten into it. I'm pretty sure we had "Man in the Mirror" on repeat all summer long! It brings back such good memories of sitting around and listening to his music back in the 80's with my 5 sisters!

Happy Birthday MJ!!!

The St. Louis Cardinals hold a special place in my family's heart and have since the 1940s. This year, their first baseman Matt Carpenter has been having an absolutely monster season and he is giving a lot of credit to his super secret homemade salsa. It's a really funny story and the run he has gone on since the salsa became relevant is remarkable.

I have had this "Popeye-esque" idea in my head since this all became a story and finally had a chance to draw it out. Keep on eating that salsa Carp!
