NEW Review has been posted for "Cybersix"!

Sporting a delicious blend of flavors taken from the recipe books of caped crusaders, film noir, golden age sci-fi comics, 90s punk counter-culture, and what we now refer to as "retro anime", Cybersix is simultaneously all of these things, and yet somehow none of them at all, operating on a completely different sub-level all its own. It's a unique concoction of stackable influences, perfectly complemented by its subtle and often unspoken world-building, and its aura of mystery and frequent lack of explanation makes it the type of show that rewards patience and willfully investing one's attention. The best way I can sum up the series conceptually is: "A gender-bending cyborg and her companions - a black panther and a high school science teacher - are relentlessly attacked by the son of a Nazi scientist and an endless menagerie of B-movie monsters as they terrorize a big city somewhere in South America." And although that synopsis does rely on some extrapolation and just a bit of hyperbole, it also doesn't quite do justice to the vibe that Cybersix embodies, which is what truly sets it apart as an amazing show.

oooh, sketch requests? I'd love to see one of my favorite superheros of all time, Cybersix! if you get to it, of course!

You’ll have to excuse my ignorance when it comes to anything superhero, but her design was super neat so I tried ! Sorry it’s so unpolished as far as sketches go, things are getting pretty lively around here.

DUUUUUDE THIS CAME OUT GREAT! :D THANK YOU SO MUCH!

a genderqueer superhero who wears a binder and hides their face so everyone assumes they’re male but then they have c cups and never bind as a civilian so their secret identity is safe

Actually theres an Argentinian comic/tv show called Cybersix thats pretty much exactly this, except the other way around:

"Cybersix" (superhero persona)

"Adrien Seidelman" (civilian persona)

I was literally just thinking of this post and adding Cybersix the other day!

Bonus points: you can get the show on DVD now too!

Hey Tumblrites!

This show is called Cybersix, you may remember it from circa 2000~ in Canada, the US and Argentina. The main character is genderfluid; posing as a male schoolteacher by day and a "crimefighting" lady by night. The show revolves around some bizarre scientific experiments used to terrorize and control the city, and Cybersix's escape as a "failed experiment" in a quest to find not only freedom, but identity.

Granted, since it aired on Fox Kids and Teletoon, it isn't allowed to explore the complex adult situations found in the original comics. But still, it's a really intriguing watch, only 13 episodes long, and as of today, it's finally available for pre-order on DVD!

I do highly recommend it for fans of sci-fi, action and mystery! The art and animation are gorgeous for being 15 years old (the animation was done by the same studio that did Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker!). It doesn't always make sense, but it's a truly unique cartoon and I'm so glad it finally got a proper DVD release!

(plus look at that costume, Cybersix is literally the lovechild of Batman and Carmen Sandiego)

Anyway, just thought I'd share because HELL YEAH I'M PRE-ORDERIN' THIS ONE!

YES. This series used to be my LIFE. I even bought all the comic’s french translations (be warned, the comics are technically erotica, but the episodes are for kids).

OH MY GOD WHAT

Cybersix - The Final Confrontation

The final episode of Cybersix is about an impending doomsday explosion, and our hero/heroine knows she might not make it back alive. Loose plot points are all taken care of before she rushes off with Dataseven to the home of her creator/nemesis.

There are some unanswered questions throughout the series that this episode tries to at least shed enough light on for you to come to your own logical conclusions, but still leaves a few things decidedly ambiguous. Were this episode not called "The Final Confrontation", it would leave enough open at the end to set up for a second season (assuming there was more material in the original comics to draw from).

Final grade: solid A/A-. While it's not always completely coherent, and there are some mismatched musical cues and cartoony sound effects from time to time, Cybersix is an engaging, fluidly-animated crimefighter/mystery series that uses a distinct art style and memorable characters to deliver a well-rounded and thoroughly enjoyable show.

One of the best action series I've never heard of, to be honest. :)

Cybersix's daytime persona is Adrian Seidelman, a male schoolteacher who sounds suspiciously like Spike from My Little Pony (SPOILER ALERT: it is).

So when this fishlike hunter lady shows up tracking Cybersix, she naturally discovers her secret identity and attacks. It's a nice change of pace episode right before the finale, and featured some of the slickest animation in the series so far.

I'm gonna miss Griselda, though. Talk about a badass!

Cybersix does "The Werewolf Episode".

Bonus points because it's also the "I know you're still in there somewhere! This isn't who you are!" episode.

Also, there's an awful lot of detail on the characters and the way they're animated in this show. And that is nothing short of awesome. :3

And then there was the time Mister/Miss Cybersix fought a gigantic floating soul-sucking eyeball by dousing it in liquid nitrogen and then it got shot by a missile and erupted into a glowing blue fountain of homeward-bound souls.

...I'm not making this up. ._.
