I originally posted this on my AskPoketaliaFace blog. However, it’s absolutely hilarious to me how daft Sycamore is compared to other Professors. Yet he manages to both discover new species of pokemon and a new typing altogether. I’m sure the other Profs get exasperated with him being so remarkable and yet so mediocre not to mention frustratingly handsome at the same time.

Cassidy and I kept joking about the Pokemon Professor’s hanging out and getting coffee to be Pokemon science nerds together. I was really tempted to draw them geeking out over Pokemon together.

But I liked our idea of them getting super drunk together and just being adorable. We decided Oak would teach everyone the Pokerap. And by teach, I mean belt loudly until someone joined.

I love all of their expressions. But mostly Elm. Poor Elm looks like he’s not drinking which is always the least fun position to be in when you go out drinking.

No, but could we please take a minute to consider professor Nanakamado/Rowan is canonically everybody's sensei/sempai. He calls prof Ookido/Oak "Ookido-kun" (meaning they're not strictly speaking equal, or that Ookido used to be under him) (no, I won't rephrase.) Shigeru/Gary is hinted to be his student/under his mentorship during Diamond&Pearl (they're always in contact, Shigeru travels in Sinnoh on Nanakamado's behalf, he is staying with him after some crisis, he is familiar with Nanakamado's assistants). And now, Platane/Sycamore used to be his student. Silly stupid cracky part of me still wants to whisper: "it's a family thing."

#i always headcanon'd that shigeru's parents were active researchers but passive parents#(leaving the kid behind at the village as soon as they could because too tiring)#... and that shigeru's dad might be totally laid back and possibly a womanizer#hence shigeru switching to the rigorous attitude once he took his first steps in the research field#so platane was just screaming 'shigeru's dad' at me since day one i'm sorry i can't unthink it#headcanon time#silliness#nanakamado hakase#ookido hakase#shigeru#platane hakase#pokemon#gen 4#gen 6
