Satoshi doesn’t seem to have aged a day and Iris hasn’t grown an inch anywhere (apart perhaps from her hair, but that’s hard to tell with her elaborate hairdo). It’s almost like they separated yesterday, until they start talking about everything they’ve accomplished in the last few years.
There’s a lot of laughing and yelling and shuffling photographs around and Pokémon being introduced and Iris whirling to show off her fabulous outfit, and Dent is just looking at them, smiling fondly. Eventually Iris elbows him in the ribs.
“And what are you daydreaming about?”
He laughs. “Nothing, sorry.”
“None of that! You’re quiet, it’s weird. What is it?”
He looks away, which is definitely odd. “It’s a little ridiculous,” he says quietly. “You’ve become the Champion, and Satoshi’s won a league, and I haven’t been doing much… but all I feel is proud of you both. Even though I did nothing to help you.”
“Yeah, that’s ridiculous,” Satoshi deadpans. “You helped us a lot.”
“I—”
“You always encouraged and supported us.”
“Yeah! Remember when you called me before I challenged Adeku-san? I didn’t want to let you know, but I was so nervous. You calmed me down.”
“We couldn’t have gotten here if you hadn’t looked after us all that time back then, anyway.”
“You made me understand how to make up with Doryuuzu.”
“And you made us make up.”
“You taught us to keep going when we made mistakes.”
“And to trust ourselves.”
“And — aww, don’t cry! What a child you are, Dent.”
