nanowrimo 2022 — day 3

I wasn’t expecting to get any writing done today due to work, but I had another severe panic attack twenty minutes into the shift, so after an hour of hyperventilating and paralysis, I went home and napped for a few hours. And then I had nothing better to do with my day, so I decided to finally put myself on the scoreboard.

  • today’s total: 1,264 words
  • monthly total: 1,264 words

We’re taking it easy with nano this year because life is not pulling its punches :)))

Aaand I’m calling it at 21,147 words.

Camp NaNo was a struggle this month, but I made it 21,147 words more than I expected to, honestly.

I had to lower my goal from 25,000 to 20,000 due to mental health complications, but I’m still proud of myself for what I managed this month, especially because of how miserable I’ve been.

NaNoWriMo ‘21 - Final Update

Project: Heartbeat, first draft Final NaNo project wordcount: 50,216 Final November wordcount (including all projects): 57,649

This was a rough year. Hands down the most difficult NaNo I’ve had (honestly even more tough than my first NaNo, which I didn’t even win). I hit a short but incredibly intense depressive episode in the middle of the month and thought for sure I was done for, especially since I already didn’t think I would make it to 50k because of my work/school schedule. But caffeine and spite carried me through and I made it with two hours to spare.

Trying to catch up on wordcount today. My first goal is to reach 35,000, so I’ve gotta write 3.7k. Which is a lot, but doable if I actually sit down and try. We’ll see how it goes.

how nano’s going so far

february: “I’m gonna write a pirate story for NaNo! I have one totally outlined already, it’ll be great!”

october: “I’m so excited to write this pirate story!”

october 31, 11pm: “I hate the idea of writing this pirate story. I wanna write this assassin story that I just thought of a few weeks ago.”

november 1, 1am: *happily writing assassin story*

november 1, 10pm: “I... may have made a bad judgement call.”

november 2: *happily back to writing pirate story*

november 3: “I hate this story. It’s not even a genre I like, why did I ever want to write this?”

november 4: *happily writing dystopian story, but now four days behind on wordcount*

....

So it’s going pretty well, I’d say.

NaNo ‘20 Final Update:

I barely made it to 50,000, but I did it!!

By the middle of the month, I was a solid 12k behind on my wordcount. I let myself accept the fact that I wasn’t going to win this year. And then I got a sudden burst of inspiration and wrote a lottt on the 18th and 19th.

My project is not quite complete, but it’s getting there. I have to finish the climax of act two, the climax + resolution of act three, and a couple chapters I skipped over from the beginning of act two. I usually write chronologically, but decided to jump around a lot this month--and I don’t think I would have made it to 50k if I hadn’t.

Let these graphs teach you a lesson: NEVER give up!! Things may be looking pretty bad at the moment, but you never know when good things are right around the corner. This applies to far more than just writing.

nano ‘20 update

I think I said I wasn’t going to attempt NaNo this year, but I changed my mind last-minute. And I’ve gotten so much farther than I expected, honestly. I figured I might hit 10k, maybe 15k, by the end of the month.

But last night, on the 18th, I made it to 20k.

My project for the month is a newer WIP of mine. Not sure if I’ve mentioned it here on tumblr yet. Working title is “Lethal Love”. Obviously, it’s an enemies-to-lovers kind of thing. It’s a disaster so far, but I’m finally starting to figure everything out. And it only took 20k words to do it.

To anyone who attempted NaNoWriMo this year and reached the 50k goal: Congratulations!!! You have 50,000 words that you didn’t have before! You made progress on your creative vision and you should be proud!

To anyone who attempted NaNoWriMo this year and did not reach the 50k goal: Congratulations!!! You have some amount of words that you didn’t have before! You made progress on your creative vision and you should be proud!
