I’ve been working on a new idea for the opening scene of Rules for the End of the World today, so for once I’m actually using recent writing for this tag. Unfortunately, that means no editing has been done. So enjoy these awful sentences.

Kiaan releases a sigh, and I cringe as he drags a bloodied hand through his hair. He looks confused at my reaction for a moment, then glances down at his hand and flinches. “We had to,” he says distantly, not looking up.

Apparently, neither of us are any good at conversation. “Is everything alright? You seem kind of--”
“I'm fine.” She finally turns to look at me. I know she's about to turn eighteen, just like everyone else in our grade, but I'm having trouble believing it. She looks so young. I could easily mistake her for being two or three years younger. “Just lost in thought.”
I'm not sure I believe it, but I don't pry. Instead, I gesture to Everest and Rebel across the room, now joined by two others. “We're gonna hang out around here for a while. You're welcome to join us,” I tell her, standing up.

Kinda boring, but it’s all I’ve got right now; I haven’t written in a few days. This was just part of a practice scene for my new WIP, Providence.

This is from my April Camp NaNoWriMo novel, Rules For The End Of The World. It’s actually a bit further back than my actual last line because my actual last line is just someone giving directions and that’s boring. Enjoy!

“Why are you here?” I questioned, folding my arms across my chest. He copied my stance. “I’m not here to talk to you. I’m here to talk to Fin.” “Fine. I’ll leave you two lovebirds alone, then,” I said, spinning on my heel. In the corner of my vision, Kiaan flinched, taking a step away from Fin and staring at the floor. “Oh. I forgot I can’t use that nickname anymore,” I called over my shoulder. “My bad.”
