At the risk of being 2024's biggest clown jester, but uhhhhhh... they might have confirmed that we'll be getting the miharu arc in this season? Matoba's voice line in the trailer (which sounds a lot like the one from chapter 92) ended up being different (accurately adapted from chapter 89.5 instead) when that scene aired in this week's episode! 🥳

Now, after the axis of his world was tilted askew, Seiji wanted to see what eye color that all of the kittens' would develop just as much as he wished to see how retirement would fit itself for Shuuichi, for them both together. For once, he stopped himself from tucking his true intentions in between the lines for Shuuichi to read, and so Seiji let his sleep-muddled mind do the talking, croaking out the truth as he cupped his boyfriend's face. "I just wanted all of us to grow old together. Is that too much to ask?"

Or: after finding a litter of kittens post-exorcism, Seiji and Shuuichi has been taking several day offs to care for the lovely devils, but nothing lasts forever when both of their demanding jobs awaited them, leaving no one to care for the young felines. Seiji wasn't ready to let them go.

Not sure if I'm totally reaching with this one, but... whenever yorishima is drawn with his lips closed, the single lines that midorikawa drew for them always seemed steady and sure to me; they're either relentlessly straight or meanly curved upwards for his natural rbf and his grumpy pout respectively. And yet, after the events in kusakabe's house with his daughters, this is the first time we see the single line for yorishima's closed lips waver, which now makes me wonder if it means anything at all?

I never stopped wondering why natori thought that gifting a happily-married woman a bouquet of roses in exchange of borrowing her adopted son for a weekend trip was the correct course of action 😭

I think what drives me the craziest about yorishima is how he still looks so young despite being grandpa-aged instead of how handsome he actually looks 😭

eyes and character design in natsume yuujinchou 🤔

so. many of the youkai-seeing characters in this series have slit pupils.

photos, in order: natsume takashi, natsume reiko, matoba seiji, takuma yousuke, shinobu, yorishima, natori shuuichi

on a sliding scale, the natsumes, matoba, and takuma are at one end, with natori having rounder pupils at the other. yorishima and shinobu sit somewhere in the centre of this scale. here’s where the youkai-seeing outlier comes in:

nanase! has very round pupils. interesting!

but then characters who have little-to-no sight have very round pupils as well.

tanuma and taki! would include other characters but i’ve ran out of images. touko, souko, shigeru, nishimura, etc. all follow this pattern

I totally agree that the cat slit eyes is likely an indication of a character's powers/ability to see youkai (and to fit the magical vibes of certain scenes too), but now I'm wondering where ban stands on the sliding scale... since his eyes are always fully black in all the translated chapters so far, especially when natori confirmed that he came from an ancient family (presumably with strong techniques, one that gives a threat to even skilled exorcists) and matoba admitted that he has unmistakable talent? I wonder if it's just a stylistic choice or if it has something to do with the eyeball that matoba said ban was rumored to be carrying? :o

Also, while I'm rereading: did seiji meet taki before he was named the clan head (since he said he went "on behalf of his father", and didn't say directly that he went as the matoba clan head) or after (since it could also mean that he did went there as the matoba clan head, just that he was honoring his father's past connection)? And does that mean the eye-eater youkai left the horrible scar after he became the clan head, which happened before he met natsume and after he met taki on her grandpa's sixth death anniversary?
