Here’s all of the coral things that I have, mostly coral “skeletons”, but I do have a fossilized one now. The most recent two I got are the big brain coral piece and the Petoskey stone fossil from an antique store. The rest of the smaller ones are from a thrift store, except for the flatter, round piece, which is also from an antique store.
A lot of my blog and things I have consist of more earth tones and forest themes, but I’m also really drawn to and really love water and the sea as well, so I wanted to make something with a water witchcraft theme in mind. ·₊˚≋⋆♆⋆≋˚₊· .
(I was also inspired by the look and colour scheme of my abalone shells, which I included in some of the photos.)
I had some grey freshwater pearls for quite a while as a very plain choker-type of necklace. I also had the metal hands for a little while and didn’t know what to do with them either. But just yesterday I got hit with the inspiration to use them together, so I unstrung the pearls and got to work.
The metal hands are even painted in a way that makes them look a bit rusty, so it gives the effect that they were rusted by sea water ☆࿐༄࿔
For the centre pendant, I glued a loop made of brown string into a shell that I got for my birthday last year. It’s one of my favourites of those shells I got at the time, especially because of the worn part that exposes the shiny mother of pearl within ☾⋆˚₊·⋆。.
I did end up miscounting the pearls I used for this project, so I was a couple pearls short for one of the sides of the necklace. Luckily it’s not really noticable, since I had just enough to make it all work out in the end. I am very pleased with how it turned out! <|:^)
♡♡♡ Have a comfy, safe, happy and healthy new year, everyone! ♡♡♡
A shell collection I found in a bag at a thrift store, this collection had the coral pieces I showed in another post included in it. It’s mostly shells, but there are also some rocks, a piece of wood and what I believe to be some ceramic pieces.
Here’s all of my coral pieces I have so far. The one piece in the second row of pictures is my first one I got from an antique store. The rest are all ones I found at the same time in a bag at a thrift store along with some shells.
I have stained them with some coffee, since I’m not particularly a fan of the pure white, sunbleached look. So here’s how they turned out :)
Closer pictures of my special sea turtle I got from an antique store quite a few years ago. The head, fins and tail of the turtle are suspected to be some sort of shell or crinoid fossils embedded in the rock. I also think that the shell is fossilized coral, because I think there are some subtle corallites in it, which are like the “skeleton” cups that hold single coral polyps.
You can kinda see the partial circular shapes of what I think are the corallites on the underside of the shell better than the top. They also have some lines around the inside of the circle shape that I think are the septa of the coral.
A big cowrie shell and a small chunk of coral I got from an outing for my birthday earlier this week. The antique store that I got them from sold quite a variety of things, but most of the stuff there was quite expensive, these were pretty good prices, though <|:^)
All of the oyster (and at least oyster-like) shells from the beach a little while ago. All were found empty, but most still had both halves attatched, so after I cleaned them, I let them dry in a closed formation while the hinge part was still wet and bendable.
More of the general clammy shells I found recently. Some nice shards, a few whole shells, some attached shells and one that kinda reminds me of a heart shape <3 (third row).
(Also, the one that looks closed is empty (all my shells were when I found them), it just looks like that from me bending it nearly closed while the “hinge” part was still wet and soft enough, then letting it dry that way.)
Shells and barnacle chunks from the beach a couple days ago. I made my best effort to make sure no one was still living in them. I gave them a good multiple soakings and washings and also stained them with coffee and tea, since I wasn’t really a fan of how sun bleached they were when I found them.
I love how the different types of shells absorb the stain differently, some are warm browns, some are cooler browns, some sort of turn grey, some darker some lighter. I’m very happy with how they turned out! (●❛ᴗ❛●)
More rocks from a trip to the beach yesterday, the biggest one has an indent in it that looks a lot like a fossil of a clam shell, though it’s most likely just a chip. Either way, I still think it looks cool :)
The rock with the vine-looking markings (fourth row) also reminds me of a crinoid (sea lily) fossil, but again, it’s most likely not. But I still think it’s still a pretty cool rock (^V^)b✩
The one with the white circular marking reminds me of a glowing full moon and has some lines though it, making it a wish stone. The small, reddish brown, cracked one (second row) looks like a side view of a cute smiley face (´ᴗ`) <3
