Wait…what?? Italy why…your selection of characters…is…um – how interesting!
I KNOW. Possibly this was the first Maurice poster (given that it premiered in Italy, at Venice), and I nominate it as probably THE worst!
The original 1987 Italian lobby-set photo choices were equally ‘eccentric’, as as if Italy was going out of its way to make Maurice look as brain-crushingly boring and sexlessly-hetero as possible (with the exception of the classic hair-stroking still). I mean:
‘Clive, there are slugs at the bottom of the bed. Do go and sort them out, darling’:
And: ‘Everyone, let’s just stand here looking bored until the tea break and see if the lost ferret turns up of its own accord’:
I don't believe I'll ever be able to forget the slugs...

I must come back to this. Now, I have to laugh till I can't breathe...
Maurice (James Ivory, 1987)
Hands, 2 of 4 (An outlaw in disguise)
Maurice (James Ivory, 1987)
Backs and necks, 2 of 3 (Pendersleigh/Penge: Maurice, Clive, Anne)
I like the scene with instantly-frozen Clive a lot, it is full of meaning. Good for everyone wondering whether Clive did forget his love for Maurice completely….
Of course he didn't! I belive there's more, much more of Clive than meets the eye.
Maurice (James Ivory, 1987)

1988 Academy Awards Nominee for Best Costume Design (Jenny Beavan, John Bright)
Oh! The blue coat and the brown jumper!

Clive and Anne vs. Maurice and Alec - different choices in Maurice (1987)
The plan was to share the most heartstoppingly beautiful moments from the new Maurice Blu-ray … and there are so many, but this batch are more like Maurice: The Blooper Reel.
Seems I haven’t reblogged it before, have no idea why. ;—-)
Number 6 ;D and all of them in fact.
And yes, ‘James’ face is priceless’. Yes indeed :-)
100th note!
