riding dragons in my dreams

Not to come on here and immediately start bitching about BookTok, but why do I keep seeing people say Aaric’s dragon will be Andarna’s mate? Seriously, I just do not understand this theory.

Andarna is 3 YEARS OLD. Rebecca Yarros repeatedly describes her as a TEENAGER. She is not going to mate with a fully grown dragon any time soon and it is kind of fucked up to suggest that.

The saddest thing that the new extract confirms is that the venin had absolutely no intention of killing Xaden and Violet.

But Xaden turned venin because he believed the general when he threatened to kill Violet.

It is heartbreakingly ironic that Xaden’s signet is (allegedly) reading intentions, and yet he couldn’t read the intentions of the general when it mattered the most. He turned venin because he believed Violet would die if he didn’t. He turned venin for a lie.

I’m still not over the fact that Xaden abandoned all his intentions of just repressing the crap out of his feelings, flew to Montserrat, and immediately started flirting with Violet just because he didn’t see her for a couple of days and was worried she was getting close to another man, who she’d been nothing but distant towards for weeks.

He is SO dramatic I can’t even 😭

I think something that makes Violet and Xaden such a good couple is how completely deranged they are for each other. They have reached a level of down bad I just have not seen from another book couple in a while.

“He fell harder” is fun, but what about “he fell first, she threw herself over the edge after him”?

The extremes Violet and Xaden have shown they are willing to go for one another is what I love so much about them and their dynamic:

Xaden burst into her room and killed everyone threatening her without a second thought. Violet walked the Parapet in a dress just to talk to him. Xaden risked the secret about the rebellion and Aretia in order to save Violet’s life. Twice. Violet allowed herself to be tortured for five days to protect his secret. Both of them left their assigned posts to fly across the kingdom to get to the other. Violet was willing to die if it gave Xaden a chance to live. Xaden turned venin so Violet would survive.

they’re so insane for each other I just adore them

Empyrean characters at PowerPoint night

I saw someone do this for tfota so credit to them for the idea

Violet: Ranking my near death experiences (last 2 years alone)

Xaden: Why your best friend is probably working for the government

Jesinia: Blondes I would marry without a second thought

Imogen: Rating my friends by how much I wanted to stab them when we first met

Rhiannon: Top 10 Basgiath hotties (and how likely I am to shoot my shot)

Garrick: Dumb ways my friends would get killed and whether I would laugh or cry

Dain: Ranking everyone by what outpost I would send them to after graduation

Mira: People I do NOT think my siblings should date

Cat: People I would bitch slap if given the opportunity

Brennan: 10 times I considered running away from home (and 1 time I did)

(Jack Barlowe would like you to know that, while he was not invited to PowerPoint night, the one he made was titled ‘How hard I would shove everyone when pushing them off the Parapet’)

Sobbing because Violet was willing to die for Xaden, even before she knew he loved her back.

In the interrogation chamber beneath Basgiath, Violet refused to talk, even when Varrish hurt her over and over again, purely out of her love for Xaden. She said herself in this scene that she thought Xaden would never put her before the revolution, and yet she was still willing to die down there to protect his secrets.

This is so heartbreaking to think about, especially after the previous scene when Violet had come to terms with the fact that Xaden might never be able to love her back. “I know he cares about me. Maybe it isn’t love. Maybe after all he’s been through, he isn’t capable of that emotion.”

We talk all the time about how Xaden loves Violet with everything he is, but don’t you dare say it doesn’t go both ways. Violet loves Xaden unconditionally, “the good, the bad and the unforgivable”, and shows this again and again in Iron Flame.

Please excuse me while I go cry hysterically into my pillow.

I’ve been watching loads of those “ballroom hair” videos recently where they slick everything back with like a shit ton of hairspray, and I just like the idea that in Navarre doing your hair like this is known as “parapet hair” and it’s like an actual hairstyle that people do.

Ironically, riders are the only ones you would never catch doing their hair like this, because between all the flight manoeuvres and narrowly avoiding death by Ninja Warrior Course, they do not have the time for all that shit.

Xaden refusing to wear a disguise when they break into the Archives is the funniest thing. He really said I have an aesthetic and I’m sticking to it.

It’s not even that he just didn’t want to wear one, but the fact that he flat out refused, even for the sake of not getting caught, is hilarious to me. At this point, Ridoc or someone would probably pass out from shock if they saw Xaden wearing anything other than black.

“Violet is a truth-sayer because Xaden can’t lie to her”

Yeah, whatever. Xaden has lied to her. When he told her he had no intention of falling for her over and over again. When he said she was the last person he’d want bonded to him. When he said he was perfectly in control of his emotions around her. Call them exaggerations if you like, but technically they are lies.

“Well the signet hadn’t manifested yet” Ok, well tell me why Xaden saying “I can’t lie to her” in the Fourth Wing bonus chapter is apparently foreshadowing, then? Why can the evidence suit your theory, but not my counterargument?

Don’t even get me started on the constant lying by omission. Not telling her about the venin or his second signet or the deal with her mother. He didn’t lie, but he also did not tell her the truth. The signet is called ‘truth-sayer’, not ‘lie-preventer’.

If you couldn’t tell, I am not a fan of the truth-sayer theory.
