Fanny was an all-female rock and hard rock band started by sisters Jean and June Millington from the Philippines who moved to Sacramento with their family in 1961, one of the first all-female musical group of its kind who played their own instruments and made it onto the Billboard charts, with Charity Ball in 1971, peaking at the #29 position. That year they were invited to record album Fanny Hill at Abbey Road Studios. By the age 20, sister June was completely certain she was a lesbian. Since the 70’s, she has been highly regarded as an important for her work on behalf of women musicians and the MOGAI/LGBT community.
June and her longtime partner would later on establish the Institute for the Musical Arts (IMA), a girls’ school, in 1986 in Bodega, California, which in the early 2000’s was relocated to Goshen, Massachusetts.
