That is when I knew that Aelin is herself again.
Aelin looped her arm through his. “I’m going to start a rumor about you, then. Something truly grotesque.”
He groaned. “I dread the thought of what you might come up with.”
She adopted the harsh whisper as they passed a group of human soldiers. “You flew back onto the battlefield to peck out the eyes of our enemies? “ Her gasp echoed off the rocks. “And ate those eyes?”
One of the soldiers tripped, the others whipping their heads to them.
Rowan pinched her shoulder. “Thank you for that.”

Been wanting to do a portrait of her, so here she comes. Will play a bit with the light on her face when I get to the coloring
Throne of glass theory- Dorian and Manon are rel… *this is only a theory, no KoA spoilers*
So this is a theory I’ve come across before, but sadly can’t find any posts that mention it. If you have not read up to Empire of Storms and don’t want to be spoiled, please skip this post!
So basically there is a theory that Dorian Havillard and Manon are related and share an ancestor, the all powerful Brannon Galathynius
It was already implied that Manon is the direct descendent of Rhiannon Crochan, as more than once she was described to look exactly like her, even Maeve says she has seen Manon’s face before when she meets her in Empire of Storms. This below is from the chapter where Manon and Aelin go inside the mirror to find the memories:
“Rhiannon Crochan. Manon started at the sight of her, and Aelin glanced between them. The face … it was the same. Manon’s face, and Rhiannon Crochan’s. The last Crochan Queens—of two separate eras.” (Empire of Storms, ch 68)
Okay so people think that Brannon and Rhiannon has a child that would lead to Manon.
This is because in Empire of Storms it is shown that Brannon did everything he could to help his descendent who was fated to suffer and sacrifice her life by his daughter Elena. Here is two quotes from the same chapter that easily shows his dedication to helping Aelin:
“But Aelin shed them [tears] for Brannon. Who knew what Elena had promised the gods—and had raged against it, the passing of this burden onto one of his descendants. Brannon had done what he could for her. To soften the blow of that promise, if he could not change its course wholly. To give Aelin a fighting chance.”
“The message on the back of the Amulet of Orynth was the only warning he could offer, the only apology for what his daughter had done, even as it contained a secret inside so deadly no one must know, no one could ever be told. But there would be clues. For her. To finish what they’d started. Brannon built Elena’s tomb with his own hands. Carved the messages in there for Aelin, too. The riddles and the clues. The best he could offer to explain the truth while keeping those keys hidden from the world, from powers who would use them to rule, to destroy. Then he made Mort, the metal for the door knocker gifted by Rhiannon Crochan, who brushed a hand over the king’s cheek before she left the tomb. Rhiannon was not present when Brannon hid the sliver of black stone beneath the jewel in Elena’s crown—the second Wyrdkey. Or when he set Damaris in its stand, near the second sarcophagus.“ (Empire of Storms, ch 68)
The red quote above is what led people to believe that Brannon could have gone that extra step to help his cursed descendent, by giving her someone else that could shoulder the burden -Manon.
She is the last crochan queen of her generation, already incredibly powerful without the possibility of also being brannon’s descendent too. I don’t think it is a coincidence that it was Manon that stepped into the mirror memories with Aelin, because maybe this was important for her to see too as she may hold the power to truly help Aelin. Her, Dorian, and Aelin combined may be able to defeat erawan without Aelin having to sacrifice her life.
Also, Brannon is described to have brandy coloured eyes, which is very similar to Manon’s gold eyes don’t you think hmm
Another indicator of her ancestry could be something we’ve seen all along -her red cloak. This is something she is famed for having, something she stole from a crochan witch she killed. Rhiannon Crochan is her ancestor so could have started the red cloak tradition of the Crochan clan. You know who else is known to have a red cloak/cape? Dorian Havillard, the king of Adarlan.
“His red cape rose and fell like a crimson wave” (throne of glass, ch 6)
Dorian is the descendants of Brannon because brannon’s daughter Elena went onto marry the human Gavin Havillard who then went onto establish the Havillard name as royalty of Adarlan. Dorian is also described to look like Gavin, both having dark hair and sapphire blue eyes. Coincidence that both Manon and Dorian look like major characters who were important to the story and realm they live in? I don’t think so!
So yeah when people thought that Manon and Dorian are fated to be together, because she also wears red and has gold eyes (both of which are the colours of Adarlan) maybe that wasn’t what Sarah was only hinting to… they could share the same ancestor. Interesting
…
Also side note, but I noticed that the first time Dorian’s red cloak is mentioned (when he’s sitting on a throne in Endovier I must add), it is also mentioned that “on his black doublet, an emblazoned gold rendering of the royal wyvern occupied the entirety of the chest”
Uhm guys am I thinking this is the wyvern mentioned is the same wyvern species that we know and love?! It could be a general term or mean multiple things but if so, isn’t it strange that the companion of the witches in the current day storyline of Throne of Glass might be the same creatures that serve as the royal wyvern of Adarlan? Is that another hint of the link between Rhiannon and Brannon?!
Guess we’ll have to wait and see in Kingdom of Ash! Only a few days now! 😅

“But death was her curse and her gift, and death had been her good friend these long, long years.”
“Dorian padded onto his balcony, needing to feel the river breeze on his face, to know that this was real and he was free.
He opened the balcony doors, the stones cool on his feet, and gazed out across the razed grounds. He’d done that. He loosed a breath, taking in the glass wall as it sparkled in the moonlight.
There was a massive shadow perched atop it. Dorian froze.
Not a shadow but a giant beast, its claws gripping the wall, its wings tucked into its body, shimmering faintly in the glow of the full moon. Shimmering like the white hair of the rider atop it.
Even from the distance, he knew she was staring right at him, her hair streaming to the side like a ribbon of moonlight, caught in the river breeze.”
