ok so this is a coffeeshop!AU. I love coffeeshop!AUs. If you're here to complain about coffeeshop!AUs kindly fuck off. If you are not, then you should know that it's a fae!coffeeshop. Fae. Coffeeshop. AU. Chloe is human. Lucifer is the devil. HOW ARE THE FAE INVOLVED? You'll have to read it to find out.
Lucifer did not run from the coffee shop. It wasn't his fault he had long legs that ate up a lot of ground very quickly and it really was a very small shop. As he stepped out the door, the sounds of LA came crashing back down on him, loud and bright and so very alive.
He had to stop for a moment and breathe it in.
His hands wanted to shake and his arm burned where she had put her hand to turn him back around. No one had ever-
It wasn't hard to direct attention away from his wing scars. A look here, a touch there, and most people were more than happy to ignore them. Humans were wonderful at ignoring things they didn't want to think about, and he'd found that no one wanted to think about the mess he'd made of his back. Dan's buddy got them both jobs in the BPD; it was at different precincts, but maybe that was a good thing. She could go to work knowing no one would bring up sore spots. It became a refuge away from Trixie's baleful glares and sullen silences. She hadn't taken the news that they were moving very well.
"But all my friends are there!" she'd shouted when it became clear that Chloe had made a final decision. "Why are you making me leave my friends!"
"Trixie..." Chloe had said helplessly, not sure what to do about something that had gone so far beyond a temper tantrum.
"No!" she'd shouted. "You messed up and you won't even let me talk to Maze or anyone and it's not fair. I hate you."

Chloe groaned, refusing to open her eyes as she turned and flung an arm across Lucifer's chest and buried her head in his shoulder. They had been over this. He would never ask her not to be friends with her ex, but his insecure jealousy reared its head at really unfortunate times.
"Do you know why it doesn't bother me that you still pal around with people you used to sleep with? Because I know you love me and wouldn't hurt me. I love you. It's 2am. Go back to sleep."

They'd been working for far too long and all Chloe wanted was to pass out. Lucifer was leaning back in his chair, eyes closed, hair starting to curl, and she knew her smile was besotted as she watched him. He must have felt her gaze, because he cracked an eye open, giving her a questioning look.
"Sorry. You're just... really adorable."
She thought she could see a faint blush on the tips of his ears and his cheeks go pink. "The Devil is not adorable, darling."
"Maybe not," she said, "but Lucifer Morningstar is."

It took her a moment to realize the string of canceled dates had worried him more than she expected.
“Whoa," she said. "If you think I don’t feel anything for you, then you’re more stupid than I thought.” He huffed a laugh, but didn't sound convinced.

They laid side by side, fingers threaded together, Chloe rubbing her thumb over Lucifer's. Pinpricks of light fell over them from holes in the top of the crate they were trapped in.
Lucifer started tensing again; every so often getting quiet and still, and she would say something dumb to make him laugh.
"Hey, at least the stars are beautiful tonight, right?" She bumped him with her elbow.
Lucifer turned to look at her, brow crinkling, and she motioned upward with her free hand. He chuckled, but there was an edge to it and she hoped Dan got there soon.

Far-Flung Stars
“Tell me what you’re thinking right now,” Chloe said, tracing a finger over his lips, eyes half lidded with sleep and face lit only by the glow of LA outside.
Lucifer was thinking about the stars, about points of light that seemed insignificant but powered entire worlds. About scattering them through the black of space, most placed where He intended. About humans, how there were so many but only one who was in the right place, the right time, to meet him. Only one who made him feel the exhilaration of painting the night sky.
I decided to make another two-part drabble game because the last one was a lot of fun to make and write.

We definitely talked about this last night and I definitely remember 0% of the conversation. But I will try again.
1. Chloe is an already-ex-Peacekeeper. She’s on the prison transport because of it, and definitely helps the others escape. She’s still more emotionally put-together than Lucifer, but that is not saying much. Since she was a Peacekeeper, she’s still like. Wary of Emotions.
2. Dan is Crais. And also the one who arrested Chloe and sent her for... what did they call it on the show? Was it just reeducation? Or something different? Anyway, he’s the reason she’s on Moya. When he comes back, during the whole Talyn bit, she’s the one that trusts him the least. They never get together again.
3. Lucifer is, obviously, Crichton. Instead of a wormhole, though, it was a rip caused by Azreal’s blade. What he was doing with it, who knows, I haven’t figured that out yet. He gets thrown through the rip and tumbles out onto Moya in the middle of a room of Peacekeepers. He almost charms his way out, but it turns out Peacekeepers do not like having desires charmed out of them. So he ends up in Chloe’s cell. Most of the AU would be him trying to replicate the conditions that forged Azrael’s blade so he can get back to his shitty, Chloe-less universe.
4. Linda stands in for Zhaan (she does not die) and Ella is a slightly older Chiana who flirts with Dan and thinks Lucifer is the neatest thing since sliced bread.
5. Lucifer does get back to his shitty, Chloe-less universe. He expects it to be like it was before, but the partying feels hollow and the sex is missing something. He doesn’t know what. It’s less upsetting than the episode where Crichton goes home for Christmas and finds out he’s too changed for Earth, but only because Lucifer didn’t like Earth so much to begin with. It was just better than Hell.
6. When Amenadiel tries to send him back to Hell, there is a Big Fight, but Lucifer manages to get ahold of Azrael’s blade, which he’s kept stored in a Secret Place, just in case. Up until that point, he couldn’t go back to Moya, and really should’ve destroyed the blade, but he couldn’t bring himself to. He and Chloe fought before he went back to Earth, so he knows he’s not welcome there again, but even brushing elbows with Chloe in a place where she hates him now would be better than going back to Hell. The last time Amenadiel sees his brother, he’s just given him a cheery wave, blood still streaming down his face from his broken nose and the slash at his hairline, as the slice between universes zips closed.
7. The only time Lucifer curses not having access to his wings anymore is when Chloe dies after saving him from... the bad guy. Pierce? Would Pierce be Scorpius? Hmmm yes I like that. Anyway, Chloe dying breaks him a little bit, and not even her being fixed can fix all the missing pieces of him.
8. Daedelus Demands and Icarus Abides don’t happen. Like, fuck Infinite Possibilities. That was so fucking upsetting that just remembering it exists makes me cry. I need to go find some fucking tissues.
1. Was being a writer a dream of yours when you were little? Or did it spring up when your older? Or is it just a hobby?
Writing has pretty much always been a thing I do. When I was a very small child (3, maybe? I definitely didn’t know that people had bodies, all the illustrations were just heads with legs and arms coming out) I wrote a ~ballet~, music, story, and illustrations included. I’ve always wanted to Write A Book, but there have been some things that got in the way of that. I took a very long break from writing when I was too depressed to function in college, and let my everything atrophy, so that’s a bummer.
But yeah, definitely always a dream of mine.
4. INSPIRATION. What inspires you the most?
I... don’t know? I have a bat postcard on my office wall that says “Scream & Be Free”, and what is writing if not screaming and being free?
I guess characters, when it comes to fanfic? Like, if I am super into something (and thus writing fic about it) I am inspired by my desire for the characters I ship to be happy together.
As for original stuff, I am inspired by I guess the outdoors and road trips? Yeah. The outdoors and road trips.
9. Favorite cliche or trope?
Would you ask a mother her favorite child??? Would you ask me my favorite cat??? (Murphy. Definitely Murphy.)
I think my fave is Enemies (or People Who Dislike Each Other) to Friends to Lovers. There is just something about two characters growing on each other (like mold) that I can’t not love.
In other words, Joe/Nicky in The Old Guard is basically fucking catnip for me.
15. Do you tell friends/family about your writing, or do you keep it a secret?
lol are you kidding my family doesn’t know I even think about writing never even mind actually do it. When it comes to original stuff I just... don’t want them to know because then I’ll have to deal with their Thoughts and Feelings on it, yanno? They’re not on the same wavelength as me so that would be... bad. Plus, I basically only write urban fantasy and they are... not into that.
When it comes to fic, I’m from one of the many generations past where if people knew you wrote fic you could literally get fired from your job. So, no. No one in my real life knows I write fic. Just the thought of them finding out gives me the screaming heebie jeebies. Holy shit.
I strongly believe that fandom should be like Fight Club, and the fact that it’s not anymore stresses me out a shocking amount.
17. Opinions on smut?
Uhhhhh I- hmmm. To be honest, I have yet to find a fic where the smut was necessary? Like, I don’t read PWPs and when I’m reading non-PWP fics and come across smut I end up skimming it. Like, sorry, but if you think you can only get the things you are trying to say across through smut you are maybe more limited than you think you are? Like, no offense, etc.
That said, writing something just for the joy of writing it is okay! You can totally do that! I just don’t want to read it. Also, when I do actually read it (because sometimes i do! Do not get me wrong!) I’ve found that the dynamics I see in the characters aren’t there? They’re slightly off? And it throws me out of the fic because a lot of things about power dynamics in sex in fic squick me.
But then, I’m an ace lesbian who is just barely on the normal side of the “sex-repulsed” boundary, so.
20. Allusions and references to other works. Thoughts? Do you like to use them?
Other works as in other fic? Or other works as in original stuff? Because like, yes, I reference original stuff all the time. Every single time I put a scene where a character says “What about you?” I’m referencing that scene in Lost. How many fics have I put a reference to “Does this smell like chloroform to you”? If I find something hilarious, odds are it gets referenced in fic I write.
Referencing fic I try to avoid because fandom is so fucking weird and precious about fic. Like, I will follow all y’all’s weird rules about not “stealing” things from other people’s fic, or writing fic of their fic, or etc. But I will be overly cautious because I do not understand the why behind them. Like, what makes you different from/more special than the writers of the original stuff you’re cribbing off of? If someone writes fic about your fic and they get the characterizations totally wrong and it’s bad and you hate it, well, now you know how the official writers for your fandom (would) feel reading your fic.
I mean honestly. But, whatever, it’s Not Done so I don’t do it.

mifflin: what do you feel is your strong suit in writing?
Hmmmm. This is a weirdly hard one. Like, my instinct is to be like “Nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!” but we all know that’s not true. Ugh, saying nice things about myself, how dare you make me do this.
I guess... I think my strong suit is resolving emotional hurt/comfort? Like, I strongly believe that in order to satisfy a reader’s emotional journey as they read my fic or whatever, the happy at the end needs to be equal to the angst throughout the rest of the fic. And I feel like a lot of endings with emotional hurt/comfort are... lackluster?
it feels, to me, like people have fallen to the dumb idea that an ending can’t be too happy or it’s not ~realistic~. And I get that other people may read fics for different reasons than I do. But, idk. Since the early 2010s there’s been a push for fic to be more “realistic”. I mean, who remembers the epic condom wank that has resulted in everyone mentioning condoms being put on in sex scenes? Regardless of if it’s going to interrupt the flow? Or the one about “depression doesn’t work like that” where people were objecting to depression being hugged away.
I get the impulse behind this, and even agree with it, but, like all writing advice, it’s been watered down and generalized and applied so strictly that it doesn’t make for as enjoyable fic anymore. Kind of like “Kill your darlings” and such.
Like, do I miss the overt homophobia of fic in the 00s and before? Especially the “we’re not gay we just love each other” trope? Do I miss the rampant misogyny and how canon love interests were treated? Absolutely fucking not.
Do I miss not having to put a disclaimer in the fic itself that “I know depression doesn’t work this way”? Absolutely. The entire point of fic, for me, is to be cathartic wish fulfillment. Yeah, you can’t love mental illness away, but wouldn’t it be great if you could? You can’t fix everything with a hug, but how cool would it be if it did work that way?
Anyway, I have gotten off track. My point is, I read fic for the happy ending. If I wanted to be sad I would read the news. And I feel like that is what I’m good at. Giving characters a happy ending that is equal to if not greater than all the angst and emotional hurt/comfort they’ve had to go through to get there.
Anyway.
houghton: what’s something you love that people compliment your pieces on?
I would die for anyone who mentions that they noticed the foreshadowing. For anyone who notices the clever turns of phrase I put in. For people who notice the small stuff.
Like, if you mention something like that, I remember your comment for as long as my ADHD brain allows. And after I’ve forgotten the comment, I’m still like “idky but I love this person” when I see your username. The easiest way to make me become a rabid fan of yours is to say “Oh I loved it when you hinted at X happening earlier!” or “This particular line is going to stay with me forever” or things like that.
Do you need me to bury a body? I will absolutely come help if you’ve told me what your fave line is and it matches up with mine. Need me to make an enemy’s life a living hell? I am down for that if you mentioned you noticed all the little hints I put in of what’s to come.
Like, guess what! Being able to guess the ending is a good thing! That means the writer is doing their job correctly and leading you down the path with a steady hand.
[Insert another massive rant about spoiler culture, the idea that guessing an ending means the writer is bad, and tropes being a terrible thing to have in your work.]

Oh shit this is going to get long because I had the MOST EXCELLENT idea and as soon as I finish this chapter of the hitman!AU I’m legit going to start working on this one.
SO. Coffee shop + Magical Accident AU:
This is not an all human!AU. I don’t know if Trixie will be in it. Probably not? It would just be too complicated and my brain can’t think of a way to make it work, as you will see.
Chloe is a human trapped in the fae realm. A long time ago, she accidentally wandered into a coffee shop she was not meant to be in, and bought a drink, and has been trapped ever since. She ended up working in the coffee shop, and she doesn’t hate it, but she wishes she weren’t trapped there.
Lucifer is the Devil, and he accidentally wanders into this fae coffee shop that he shouldn’t’ve been able to find, never mind cross the threshold. Because he’s the Devil, and already not human, he can’t be trapped there. Which is a good thing, because he doesn’t realize that Something Isn’t Right in this coffee shop for a while.
When he does, it’s because he has been flirting with Chloe for a while and is falling in love with her and is like “Chloe. I have to tell you something. I’m the Devil.”
And she’s like “lol I don’t believe sin Christian deities I’ve been working in this shop too long.”
And he’s like “??????? What does that have to do with anything?”
And she’s like “?????? I’m mortal?????”
And he’s like “yes, obviously?????????”
And she’s like “AND THIS IS A FAE COFFEE SHOP???????”
And he’s like “What the fuck faeries aren’t real.”
And she gestures around in exasperation and he’s like “…oh”
But she still doesn't believe he's the devil and he doesn't want to like devil face her because it would scare her and their friendship would be over because he’s a big dumb.
And he’s like “why are you here?”
And she’s like “I accidentally wandered in and had a drink.”
And he’s like “……..” And looking at his drink.
And she knows he isn’t mortal but she assumes he’s some kind of fae she never met before, so she’s like “lol what are you worried about?”
And he’s like “I’m the Devil, darling, it would hardly be fitting if I were trapped in the fae realm.”
And she’s like “oh, you.”
And eventually he finds out she’s Trapped and he loves her and This Can Not Stand.
So he drags her on an Adventure to the heart of the realm and is like HELLO GIVE THIS HUMAN BACK HER LIFE. PLEASE.
And the faerie queen is like “hmmm ok but only if you can hold onto her” and he’s like ??????????? And the faerie queen is like “go on, shoo, you’ll see”.
And he’s still like ??????? All the way back as he’s holding hands with Chloe (at some point she finds out he really is the Devil during this journey just F Y I). Chloe is all :( because she knows what that means, and she tells him, “when we leave, don’t let go” but her eyes are dim because she knows it’s impossible.
And so they leave through the coffee shop and Chloe turns into a bunch of beasts a la Tam Lin and Lucifer manages to hold on to her and she eventually stops and is human and he’s like “Darling! You’re free!!!!!!!!!!”
And she turns to him
And says
“Who are you?”
