#prev i really wanna highlight one of your tags#into Women Grieve By Being Quiet Sad and Self Destructive#and Men Grieve By Having No Emotions#<- prev#and thats the important dichotomy between hamlet and ophelia#because hamlet actually grieves by being deeply self destructive and then grieves quietly (madness to hide his grief)#while ophelia (pre the death of polonious) grieves by shutting off her emotions#see: following when polonious tells her to stop seeing hamlet or her original lack of response in the nunnery scene#and her responses to hamlet in the lay your head in my lap scene#and while im very big on crazy ophelia being her chance to actually get to feel emotions without feeling like everyone will judge her#(because shes insane so how can they?)#the fact is that shes deeper than just crazy lady#but a fear of dying as the insane woman for a man is so petrifying that its easy to overlook all that for trying to be something else
