ϟ 95) When Teddy was an infant, his hair turned color to match that of the person he wanted to hold him. This worked well when he wanted his godfather, which was often, but it became incredibly confusing when he sought a Weasley. There were many hasty rounds of pass-the-baby-because-dear-god-stop-the-crying.

What about when his hair turned pink and they could do nothing about it :’(

what have you done

  • Teddy calls Harry dad one day and he doesn’t really know what to say.
  • Teddy Lupin crying when someone accidentally lets it slip that his biological parents are dead.  He’s 4 and the thought never occurred to him that Ginny and Harry weren’t actually his parents.  Harry holds him until he stops crying.
  • They figure out that now’s good a time as any to bring out old photos of Remus and Tonks.  They substitute bedtime with any old stories they remember from their Hogwarts days.
  • “I can still call you Mum and Dad right?”
  • Harry and Ginny waiting until Teddy’s about 6 years old to start having their own kids.
  • Sirius’ spoiling godfather nature is evident in Harry because he spoils the boy beyond belief.
  • When James Sirius is born, Teddy vows to protect him and be the best brother ever.
  • The first couple of months after they bring him home from the hospital are pure murder.  Harry asks, “How do you turn him off?!”
  • One day when Harry and Ginny are too tired to function, James Sirius begins his crying routine.  Teddy walks by the room before he gets too loud and starts changing his hair color among other things.  Harry comes into the room to see Teddy leaning into James’ crib with the latter laughing for the first time ever.
  • Edward Remus Lupin is sorted into Hufflepuff without a moment of hesitation from the sorting hat.
  • The marauders each hand Tonks 5 galleons apiece.

Sometimes I like to think about how if James and Lily had survived they would’ve been grandparents in their early forties like can you imagine James taking his namesake to the park and someone cooing over him and the baby like, “Your son is adorable,” and he tells them, “Grandson, actually,” and they think he’s joking until James Sirius catches his attention by saying, “Grandad!”

“Do you know what it’s like to be named for the dead?” James asks his father in the middle of one of many arguments. “Do I remind you of a man we’ve never met? Am I in honor of someone you watched die? Because I don’t want it.” When James Sirius Potter looks at himself in the mirror, he sees a mess of reddish brown curls and slightly askew glasses and freckles everywhere. He sees hands that climb trees and grip tightly to broomsticks. He sees his mother’s smile and hears his father’s voice. Because James seems like the thick goofball of the family, but he reads history book after history book, wishing to never repeat the sins of their fathers. If he saw any of James Potter he wouldn’t recognize him at all, and maybe, he fears, that’s where he falls short.

“Do you know what it’s like to be named for the dead,” Albus says one day to Rose as they sit by the Great Lake. “Names of men who I think aren’t the heroes I’ve been told about. Men I’m told are brave but seem just as bad as the rest.” Albus Severus Potter loves being called Al and having his hair ruffled by his friends. He loves sitting on high ledges and looking out at the vast sky and thinking about what is on the other side of the earth. Albus Potter sticks his nose in old books and keeps to himself and has no desire for greatness in any form. He doesn’t want to lead a war or be a spy. He wants to be Al and bake with his grandmother on Sundays and give his sister piggyback rides. And, most days, that feels like admitting failure.

“Do you know what it’s like to be named for the dead,” Lily shouts one day with tears in her eyes. “I’m not her, I’m not her, I’m not her,” she repeats over and over again. Because Lily Luna Potter is a Slytherin and brutal and fierce and full of fire and made of stone. She is not soft and kind - she is not the woman who saved her child from death. Because she can be selfish and harsh and unforgiving. She spends her mornings running through the icy, frozen woods and her nights leaning over windowsills because the rush is just right.  Lily Potter will fight to the death, but for no one but herself. And does that make her somehow distorted, she wonders as she flips through photo after photo of a young woman with pretty eyes she doesn’t have and gentle hands that she will never understand.

“Do you know what it’s like to be named for the dead?” Fred chokes through sobs as he rushes past his mother. “Do you have any idea what it’s like to be named for someone who haunts us every day and every night? Can you imagine being named for someone you can never look like because of your skin?” Because Fred Weasley ties up his wild dark hair into a thick ponytail when it’s time to play Quidditch and sees deep brown eyes when he looks at his reflection. Because Fred is dark skinned like his mother and will never look like his namesake, and is he resented for that? Is it worse to look like the brother that his father lost or to not resemble someone he loved at all? Because, most days, Fred is already different than the rest of his cousins and friends. Fred loves to laugh and play the highest caliber of pranks, because Fred is a Weasley…but that is something that no one can physically see, and that’s what’s the most terrifying.

“I know what it’s like to be named for the dead,” Teddy tells them all at some point, his hands on their shoulders or pulling them into a tight hug. “I know what it’s like to remind the person you love of all who they’ve lost. How much it hurts.” Because Teddy Lupin is named for a man who was killed alone and frightened in the woods over twenty years ago. He is his mother when he decides he likes the color pink and his father when his eyes morph into an almond amber. Because he is an orphan and no different from Harry…and he can understand how their father feels, because he wishes to honor those who died for him, too. Because he knows he is nothing like Ted Lupin, and yet his name carries a piece of his grandfather with him and that’s why Grandmother can only call him “Teddy,” otherwise she’d burst into tears. Because Teddy Lupin lives in between Harry and George and their children - born into war and only knowing peace. And so Teddy understands exactly what it is to be named for the dead, and knows exactly why it is so important to do so.

And even as he tries to tell them all this, he feels hot tears running down his cheeks and wonders to his parents, who have never been there, “Do you know what it is to be named for the dead?”

Teddy Lupin was an orphaned boy with many families.
He had his grandmother. He had the Weasleys. He had the Potters. The only family that he was missing was the Lupins. The only family that he was missing was his parents.
Only. A word that seems to imply something small, something seemingly insignificant. However, in Teddy’s case, this only represents a small family with an undeniable amount of significance. To his grandmother, to the Weasleys, to the Potters. But most importantly, to Teddy himself.
Growing up with Andromeda, he would notice her looking at him with sad expression painted across her aging features. He reminded her of them. From a young age, he recognized that fact, and he hated it. He didn’t want to cause his grandmother pain.
“Teddy, darling,” she said one day when she caught him trying on an array of different faces. She knew. “I’m so grateful. For many reasons. I raised a strong, determined daughter who fell in love with a strong yet broken man and loved him in spite of it. They had their obstacles that they had to weave through, duck under, and jump over. But they made it. Together. Surrounded by war and chaos, they managed to find a ray or light. They fought to make that glimpse of light into so much more. Oh goodness, did they fight. Unfortunately, this time around they didn’t make it. Or did they? Because every time I look into your eyes, I see your father. I see your mother in that crooked grin of yours. And I see them both in the way that you love. You see, they may not have made it, but they made you. They are alive within you. I am so grateful for that. Because when I look at you, not only do I see my beautiful grandson, I see the two people that created him. Two people whom I love and miss dearly.”
At the age of 13, Teddy finally got a lot of the answers that he had been asking for his entire life. He watched memories from all of his families. After years of not really knowing who he was, he finally understood. With each memory, his hair grew more and more blue until it settled on a shade close to turquoise. “Why blue?” His godfather asked him.
Instead of trying to explain that he didn’t do it on purpose, that he had no control over his hair turing blue, or trying to say that it just felt right, he just smiled, “Why not blue?”
On his 18th birthday, two things happened. First, Teddy was gifted with an old motorbike. Sirius’ motorbike, and it was perfect. “He would have loved you, and he’d want you to have it,” Harry said as he pulled his godson into a tight embrace. Later, he sat in a muggle tattoo parlor with Victoire by his side. She held his hand as he lay on his back and had a rising phoenix tattooed onto his chest. A symbol of his parents. A symbol of what they stood for and what they laid down their lives for.
Teddy Lupin was an orphaned boy, yes. But he was so much more than that. He was a Hufflepuff. He was a prefect, and eventually Head Boy. He was a boy that loved worn out denim and combat boots. He was what some would call a punk, yet he was unbelievably kind. He was teased by his friends for constantly telling others, “Be nice.”
Most importantly, Teddy Lupin was loved. His parents may not have been around to do the loving themselves, but those around him made sure to do it for them (x)

Ok so I know Ron was all like “thank goodness you inherited your mother’s brains”  so now everyone’s sort of like “oh Rose Weasley she’s the girl and she’s smart so she’ll be just like Hermione.”  and its like ok, that’s good BUT

what if she inherited her mothers brains but also inherited her fathers personality?  So yes, she does know the counter curse that would easily take down that jerk of a 3 rd year that keeps picking on her BUT kicking him in the teeth is way more fun/effective.  Or like she’s studying for a test and Albus is having a crap day so she just tosses her textbook in the air and is like “let’s play chess or sneak out or whatever.” And she ends up failing the test the next day but is all like “lol whatever I can make it up later” OR EVEN BETTER-

Scorpius:  People keep picking on me because my dad was a Death Eater.

Rose: Kill them.

Scorpius: Rose no.

Rose:  *stands up* Fine, I’ll kill them.

Scorpius: roSE NO.

Teddy being a really shy kid who doesn’t talk much, and Victoire being this loud, stubborn little girl, and Fleur worries her daughter is a bad influence on polite, quiet, Teddy.

Harry coming to pick Teddy up one day and the two of them are running through the house and shouting, and laughing and he’s not sure, but is Teddy singing? and Fleur telling Harry this is what they’re always like.

Harry and Andromeda getting really excited because they were worried about how introverted and shy Teddy was, and deciding to make him spend more and more time at the Weasleys.

Thirteen year old Teddy discovering teenage angst and  Muggle bands, and going through a phase where he talks about being misunderstood all the time and wears a hell of lot of black and makes his hair blue and purple and green.

Victoire rolling her eyes inwardly, but in a show of support listening to his music and dying the tips of her blonde hair blue, because “Teddy, I still understand you, no matter what, you moron.”

Fleur unsure  who is actually the worse influence on who now.
