Let’s keep today’s awesome cosplay streak going a look at Emma Rubini’s outstanding monochrome Tank Girl cosplay. She looks like she just stepped out of the pages of Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin’s iconic comic book:

Follow Emma Rubini on Instagram or Facebook to check out more of her amazing cosplay creations.

HOW DOES THIS ONLY HAVE 50 NOTES?!?

Did I find a viral post pre-viral?!?!

All exclamations aside, this is the best tank girl cosplay I’ve ever seen, and I’m including the movie staring Lori Petty.

Hey everybody, this weekend I’m going to

✨ ANTHROCON ✨

Since I get the impression it’s acceptable to dress up as an animal person at AC I took the opportunity to make a costume out of Rue, my D&D character, which I’ve been wanting to do for a while. If you see me, please feel free to say hi.

I will also be attending the Homestuck meetup on Friday at 5pm. I’ve kind of kept it on the downlow but I am the Director of Environmental Art for Hiveswap. I’ve also done a bunch of work for Homestuck itself. If you have any Homestuck/Hiveswap questions feel free to ask and I’ll answer as much as I can.

Hope to see you guys there!

I’ve submitted before and you guys all said you wanted to see when it was finished.. Well it finally happened. Since I’ve had quite a bit added and so far the Harry Potter section is completed and I will now be moving into possibly adding Lemony Snicket & Tim Burton themed pieces to create an entire sleeve.

This is all done by the same artist at Fallen Sparrow in Kissimiee Florida. I’m continued to be blown away by Fames talents and his creativity in designing something I have waited years to get.

“Lucille, who is absolutely tied to this house, says a line about how she can never leave this house. Looking out at a vine that is dead, she says, ‘Nothing grows here anymore.’ So we started making these leaves.” She and the team also hand-dyed hundreds of long, claw-like acorns—and when the tops separated in the dye solution, re-glued each cap.
She modeled a large, intricate and dimensional garland of leaves from a sample piece of passementerie. It encircles Lucille’s dresses like vine that protects—or strangulates.
A team of six artisans created the leaves from a single length of cording, each frond and vertebrae glued and hand-stitched according to a template. Hawley estimated that each leaf took six hours to create.
“We built it so that we could take the whole thing off and put it on the next dress,” Hawley said. The intensive labor was easier to justify because Lucille wears dresses with the garland for most of the film.
Hawley also extended the utility of the dress by creating three different bustles. “Each one gets longer … and functions like an umbilical cord attached to the house,” she said.

Ant-Man (Scott Lang) paper cutout

My six-year-old LOVED the Ant-Man movie, immediately requesting I make him an Ant-Man for his room on the drive home from the theatre. The problem (such that it is) is that his is the DC characters bedroom (his younger brother gets Marvel characters), and, well, my own sense of order wouldn’t let me mix Scott Lang with his wall of characters. So I had to come up with a creative solution.

The solution so far when I want to give the boys a little something different than that which would fit in the main collage is to frame it, as I did with the Bat Family, Scribblenauts, and Super Friends. But what to do with a single character?

I thought for a moment to show Ant-Man shrinking, since that would work well with the tiered shadow boxes I use. But that sounded really hard, man. When drawing shrinking, you only have to draw the parts that aren’t covered by the progression. When cutting it out of paper, you have to do it all, which would meant cutting out that helmet four times or so. Pass.

Now, the fun of Ant-Man is, of course, that’s he’s small. That he hangs out with bugs is a close second (at least for a six-year-old). So I needed to incorporate those two things. At first, I considered just putting a small cutout in the same 12 x 12 frames I’ve been using, but the thing about little kids is that they don’t really appreciate the value of negative space.

I considered just recreating chrissamnee‘s variant cover for Ant-Man #1 in full, but quickly decided that making all those bullets would be boring. Plus, while making small cutouts is a fun challenge and my son likes having them, it does prevent me from doing the character full justice.

Then I remembered the EW magnifying glasses cover for Ant-Man, and the inspiration had hit: I could do BOTH a small Ant-Man and a detailed one (both based on Samnee’s awesome cover). So what you see is the framed picture my son got: the small Ant-Man (about 2.5 inches wide) is pasted onto a blank background with a magnified version hovering over top of it. Lift the magnified version and you see the small one. My son gets his very own lift the flap art piece!
