So, what do you think Mulan's Happy Ending turned out to be? Triad with Ruby and Dorothy or Aurora and Philip? Consort of the Queen of Dunbroch? A whole week of quiet time so she could read a book or get a massage or something? Opening up a new frozen yogurt store with Smee?
Oooh… well, she definitely deserves a break, first of all. But more than that, a home. Somewhere she can belong, and keep honing her fighting skills, and do whatever else she wants to do. Maybe in DunBroch, getting all of Merida’s lads into shape.
I still ship her with Ruby, but in terms of canon… maybe that Li Shang fella could show up sometime. Or, ooh, she accompanies Merida on a state visit to Arendelle and meets Elsa, and Elsa has a bit of experience dealing with prickly ladies, and Mulan can’t help but be charmed by Elsa’s shy but earnest smiles (and let’s face it, no one can resist befriending Anna for long). Because beneath Mulan’s combative attitude, she believes in doing the right thing and being heroic, and so does Elsa, and they both want to be accepted and have a place to call home. And they can bond over stories of hanging out with Emma and her weird family and that annoying pirate. Not to mention, they’d be a very very pretty couple.
I was always hoping that Li Shang would show up. I like his character and he and Mulan story so much in the Disney movie. With you though in wishing we just know where Mulan ended up and that we were sure she was happy. I could see her returning to DunBroch for sure, but now I can envision Arendelle too! (Oh my goodness, now I’m picturing her meeting Anna and Anna being her gushy, enthusiastic self and Mulan not knowing what to make of her...)
