via Jenna & Guillaume of TINY HOUSE giant journey

Every Sunday we host a tiny house “B.B.BBQ,” which is an acronym we made to stand for Build, Beer, and Barbecue. It’s where we invite like-minded individuals to stop by, pick up a hammer, and help us build our dream home. At first we thought no one would show, even for a free lunch and beer, but we were quickly greeted by a myriad of people knocking at our door. It’s been unbelievably exciting to meet other tiny house enthusiasts, and we are so grateful for the help. Our B.B.BBQs have become a unifying network for people from all walks of life who have one similar interest… albeit “tiny.”

Many thanks to Jenna & Guillaume for today’s guest post. They are really kind folks by the way. I would not hesitate to check out their resources and inspiration over on their blog or other social profiles.

This is our model Tiny Home. Named “The Miter Box" because it is a work of precision with much attention paid to the finer details. It is also an extremely energy efficient structure using a wide variety of energy efficiency measures. It’s a whopping 150 square feet including the bed loft. It includes a small kitchen, lots of creative storage, a dinette with hydraulic table that turns into a double bed, and a “wet bath" with a shower and flushing toilet.

Framing the walls pt. 2

We managed to frame and place all but one of the exterior walls on our own. We then had to call in the cavalry for the last humongous, akward wall. Friends to the rescue! We all lifted the wall into place, and it fit perfectly. We nailed and screwed it in place and then began relaxing, when I realized something seemed amiss. Well we had placed the wall in backwards. So we took all the nails and screws out , reset the wall, and then we could actually relax.

We spent the weekend figuring out our one interior wall. We bought a used pocket door, which of course did not include directions. Mike worked and figured out how to make it work, he had to do some clever thinking to shorten the door, but it all eventually came together.

We then framed the loft into the night, and in the morning we had a skeleton of our future home.

I decided to make a little video of the house even though it is unfinished. PLEASE keep in mind that everything is still in progress and we have a ways to go. And please forgive the shaky iPhone video. When it’s finished I’ll make a better video.

Great tour of a tiny house build in progress with spoken building materials. Thanks for sharing with us goldentinyhouse! Hooray for your great accomplishments!😃✌

Framing the walls

After much planning, we started cutting the wood for the walls. It took about a week and a half to mark and cut the framing pieces after 3 hours if work a day. I broke down the walls into sections, and labeled each piece with its section and number. We started putting the walls together like a piece of furniture for IKEA. We framed the first loft which is for storage.

Currently passed the day 102 mark on this tiny house build (^o^)/

looks to be another great "tiny house build on tumblr". BTW, For reference I am tagging the build here on Tumblr and elsewhere with "case study": throw that into the search box on the main Small House Ideas page; we hope to be able to access more like this easily in the future for our own use.
