TOP GUN (1986) dir. Tony Scott
Rewatching Dead Reckoning and Ilsa potentially being alive or at least SOMETHING more going on there feels more and more obvious the more I watch Dead Reckoning the whole scene right before they go to the Doge’s Palace is like. Begging you to Get It.
Cruise/McQ, shaking us by the shoulders: DON’T TRUST YOUR EYES! THE ENTITY IS CHANGING REALITY! NOTHING OUTSIDE OF THIS CONVERSATION CAN BE TRUSTED! THEY KNOW THAT THE ENTITY KNOWS HOW TO GET TO ETHAN!
Everyone On Al Gore’s Internet: Yeah I’ll just take what happens next at face value thanks
“I’m the reason she’s dead.”
“No, she’s the reason you’re alive, and that’s the truth.”
Is literally the only acknowledgment of Ilsa’s death from the IMF gang and it isn’t even an acknowledgment that she’s dead it’s an acknowledgment of a sacrifice made to keep Grace alive.
Gabriel says very clearly that all he has to do to guarantee he gets off that train with both halves of the key is kill either Ilsa or Grace. Despite Ilsa’s apparent death, he fails to get off the train with either halves of the key.

He is doing worse than Bobby thought...
Thinking about the times Eddie was a big weirdo, awkwardly using the word "woman," when referring to someone he or Buck is dating. For no damn good reason.
"When was the last time a woman told you she had to wash her hair?"
"The other day you asked me about my friend. It's a woman."
"I'm just gonna stick it out. Ana's the first woman I've wanted to spend this much time with since Shannon..."
I'm almost certain Buck never does this. Just Eddie. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) Almost like a shibboleth for straightness. "I like women. Buck likes women. We're attracted to women. That's it. End of story."
It's subtle but very loud is what I'm saying.
BONUS:
Eddie Diaz is repressed as hell. News at 11.
watching this season of 9-1-1 and i am seeing the same story beats for buck and eddie that i saw in season 4 of castle between kate and castle. from the shooting at the end of season 3 of castle. at roy montgomery’s funeral. and castle tries to knock kate out of the way but he’s too slow, and he lays his emotions on the line (which she ‘forgets’ because she’s not in a place to process it) and eddie getting shot by a sniper at the end of season 4 of 9-1-1.
and buck feeling like all he could do was stand there and tell eddie to stay with him, to hold on. even as he pulled him out of danger.
further, following the shooting there’s this:
and this
and then in season 5, eddie isn’t dealing with his trauma and pretending like he’s fine, but buck knows he’s not, compared to season 4 of castle and kate trying to act like she’s fine because she has to keep going, and castle et al realizing she’s not well. and then 508 and buck tired and weary. asking eddie if he’s ok not expecting and honest response and so his answer isn’t adequate to the situation. and it’s the same progression you see with castle and beckett. that he wants to be there for her but she keeps pushing him away and he’s getting more weary of that, until finally he pushes her away.
and if this keeps going on in this manner then it’s kind of clear how this season is going to end for them. and i think what it looks like in 9-1-1 is eddie laying his life on the line for christopher. and buck. buck gets it right? because it’s christopher. but also he recognizes the trauma fueled desperation of eddie’s actions. and he doesn’t know how to be there for him anymore. like he will be there for christopher, but he is going to cement the distance that has been developing between him and eddie this season, because he has to. because otherwise his heart will shatter. so he pulls away, he calls eddie on it and pulls away after he helps save christopher. and this is also eddie’s moment of feeling like he’s lost everything. Everything. and so once he’s sure everything is actually okay on the homefront he seeks out buck. because he has to make this right between the two of them. (also it’s the same amount of seasons of development because eddie doesn’t join the 118 until season 2. 4 seasons of this build between them) idk i’m just unwell. and i could absolutely see it going down like that. and this:
is the resolution of all that buildup (after a particularly intense airing of feelings and truths and beckett almost dying again) and after this last episode the castle x beckett/buck x eddie parallel truther inside of me is alive and well
I'm just too late
In the Heights (2021) Part 2 of 2
soulmates.
Mary’s a scientist and her specialist subject is color. She knows everything there is to know about it, the wavelengths, the neurological effects, every possible property that color can have but she lives in a black and white room. She was born there, and raised there. And she can only observe the outside world on a black and white monitor. And then one day someone opens the door and Mary walks out. And she sees a blue sky. And at that moment she learns something that all her studies couldn’t tell her. She learns what it feels like to see color. The thought experiment was to show the students the difference between a computer and a human mind. The computer is Mary in the black and white room, the human… is when she walks out.
-You know, you’re a lot heavier than you look.
-I had a big breakfast.
You know, the only thing I remember from Sunday school is the martyrs… the saints, the saviours… they all end up the same way. Bloody and alone.

Desolation of Smaug Countdown | 1. Of Smaug the Terrible
Smaug the Impenetrable (T.A. ~2770 - 2941) was the greatest fire-breathing dragon of the Third Age. His origins are unknown, but he appeared on the scene during the Sack of Erebor in 2770 when he claimed the Lonely Mountain and drove the Dwarves from Erebor. There he remained for nearly two hundred years until Thorin and Co. returned to reclaim the Mountain and its treasure.
Once Bilbo Baggins refers to himself as “Barrel-rider,” Smaug comes to believe that the Men of Lake-town—who deal with many barrels in their workings with the Elves of Mirkwood—are involved in the quest to reclaim Erebor. He then desolates Lake-town in a terrible attack. He is slain by Bard the Bowman, and the reign of Smaug is ended.
