This painting by Nicolas Régnier hangs in the Ferens Museum in East Yorkshire where I live and grew up. I’ve known this painting for as long as I can remember. As a chlid visiting the museum, I would always go straight to it, before I looked at anything else, and would stand and stare at it again before I left. Although the picture and artist relatively unknown, I still consider it one of the great paitings in the world, I never tire of going and admiring it
