Thoughts of A Sleep Deprived Mind

Hello! Welcome to my blog! I'm Connie, a member of the Tumblr geriatric ward and pop culture enthusiast.

This is my place to blog about my favorite broadcast and streaming shows (Star Trek: Discovery, This is Us, The Flash, Glee, etc.), movies (Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar), actors (Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, and many more), music, food, technology, politics and whatever captures my interest at the moment.

What do you have coming up outside the show in 2014?

For me, having really made my way as a musician before Glee, and not to some huge degree but that was the path I was going down, that was something that I needed to do and I could’ve put an album out, in my mind I’m three years overdue, but I just had too many things that I wanted to do and I didn’t want to half-ass it. So I’d like to finish what I’ve been working on the past few years this year because I think it needs to be done.

I hope Lea Michele’s album does so well and it will be a big smash because she’s a superstar. Mine will be a little different, it’s a different process. I’m the nerdy rock musician who wants to make my nerdy rock and roll so I don’t know if it will be the same fanfare, but I’d like to finish it. Or do another stage show or do a movie. Beggars can’t be choosers, man! I’ll take whatever they give me.

Growing Up...Even While Living With a Broken Heart

Blaine’s storyline this year is not at all about him being 1/2 of klaine - regardless of how much in love with Kurt he is.  Blaine being in love with Kurt (and arguably, underneath his palpable pain, Kurt being in love with Blaine) - isn’t enough for these boys to become adults. Despite those feelings, this year is about each of them doing things on their own, branching out, and choosing things for themselves…and then, as we all hope and know, ultimately choosing each other.

Blaine’s story this year - school president, tempted by Dalton, realizing he wants to stay at McKinley for himself and forgiving himself for cheating, developing friendships with others (Sam, Tina), leading ND, applying to NYADA (and much as the tiresome argumenting about this being for Kurt goes on - Blaine has ALWAYS wanted to go to NY, always wanted to perform, be an artist, and this is a show that takes place in 2 places - Lima and NY- it is a narrative necessity that he be at NYADA to maintain his full character status, so suspend some disbelief and go with it. It’s for him, not Kurt. This isn’t Finn and acting. This is what Blaine has always wanted to do. And Kurt and him have shared this dream.). And there will be some playful stories too - like this upcoming crush…In short, the year is about growing up - for both Kurt and Blaine. Less naive, less perfect, less innocent - more ready to choose each other when it’s time.

I agree with much of this - especially the part in bold (which I bolded for emphasis)

In New York, Kurt and Blaine set the table for dinner and sneak more glances at each other, as they have been doing all episode. Darren Criss and Chris Colfer have this way of looking at each other with so much familiarity that it almost feels too intimate to watch. Kurt and Blaine can have entire conversations through an upturned corner of a mouth and a softening of eyes. Blaine doesn’t even try to hide how he watches Kurt with a quiet gratitude that they’re still in each other’s lives, and every time Kurt catches Blaine’s eye it’s with the expectation that he’ll be looking back. He always is. There’s a quiet certainty in those looks, the shared knowledge that they’re not back, but they’ll get there. Blaine pulls out Burt’s chair as they take their seats for dinner and all I can think of is his earlier promise to Kurt to look after him, and wonder if he made the same promise to Burt.

There are so many reasons Klaine is such a cherished, beloved couple – and perhaps even the most favorite on “Glee.” The driving force behind the fan shipping is unquestionably the incredibly brilliant job Chris Colfer and Darren Criss do bringing Kurt and Blaine to life – and making their feelings in any given moment in their relationship so wonderfully real. The amazing thing about this phone call is how much we feel what they are feeling – on two separate ends of the conversation, in two separate places. Blaine clings to every word Kurt says (and so do we, who are we kidding?). When Kurt says “I miss you like crazy” and “You’re still my best friend” Blaine fights tears and ours flow helplessly—en masse. Kurt promises they’ll have a “mature heart-to-heart” at Christmas and maybe go ice skating. Darren Criss just nails how you can be so happy and sad at once that you can’t really even speak. So Blaine sort of squeaks out, “So we’re really gonna see each other at Christmas?” and Kurt says yes, with confidence. When Blaine sort of breathes out, “I love you so much, Kurt…” Kurt offers a shorter, more crisp, “I love you too.” It’s obvious Kurt is trying to keep his chin up and not break down – until Isabelle finds him and offers him a hug and tears roll down his face.

Backstage, Blaine’s phone rings. And it is Kurt. He has climbed out onto the fire escape in the cold in the rain to call Blaine because no matter how warm and wonderful it is inside his loft right now, he is still cold on his insides because of the hobbit-shaped hole in his heart. At first, he just wants to accept Blaine’s apology and move on with his life, like Isabelle told him was the grown-up thing to do. But then he thinks wishing Blaine luck at Sectionals is also the grown-up thing to do. But then once he starts talking, he can’t stop, because just the knowledge of Blaine on the other end of the phone is making him feel whole and alive again, and so he invites him to go ice skating at Christmas, invites him to have a real conversation with him about their lives and their future, invites him to laugh with him because he’s still scared of that mouse he saw one time at Lima Bean. Blaine’s face lights up like Christmas and he blurts out that he loves Kurt so much, and Kurt cannot help himself. He says he loves Blaine too. They stay on the line just long enough to let the other one know they never, ever want to hang up.

It’s Isabelle who talks Kurt into finally responding to Blaine’s many voice mails, and their phone call (backstage at sectionals, no less!) wasn’t a reconciliation, but it was a start. Once again, I’m impressed by the tenderness with which the writers have chosen to treat these two characters, and the skill with which the two actors approach them. You can’t help but root for Kurt and Blaine.
