As you said earlier, the divide is massive and startling, more than anyone expected when Trump began rallying his troops. And sadly there are going to be friends and family staring at each other across the chasm. I am really sorry about your friend, though. xoxo

Indeed.I found out tonight just how truly massive that divide is. It’s so unfortunate that friends and family have to be staring sat each other across the chasm. That’s the sad reality of how things are though. 

As tough as it is to lose a friend, that was the risk I took when I started talking about politics (or any controversial topic for that matter). I have to accept that risk.

If, by "dividing the country racially", your Nonny means that the Obamas have--just by virtue of existing and being smart, compassionate, successful, and black--angered the racists enough to drive them to expose themselves as ugly bigots on the wrong side of history, then yes, those are two worn, but legal tender pennies your Nonny has just offered.

It turns out that the fear and nausea I felt leading up to our last election in Canada (still have Harper-related PTSD) were just a tremor compared to the fear I feel in the seemingly endless lead-up to the US election. There is a large list of reasons for that fear to be extreme. Half of that list is Trump, the other half is the staggeringly large number of people who think as he does. This has exposed a massive divide.

I often think that the majority of the rest of the world is giving us a huge side eye and going WTF. Thank goodness Trudeau won the Canadian election. He is a breath of fresh air! :)

I 100% agree with you. Trump himself is just one person. The number of people who think like he does terrifies me. The divide is indeed massive and startling.

:) *nods* Nature’s colors are really calming and soothing. 

These are the colours of my ocean–when it is feeling friendly, that is. There is no peace quite like the limb lassitude of a day spent walking the shore, the noise in your brain quelled by the percussive sibilance of the surf **sssss-BOOM-pssssshhhhh** driving onto the beach and then lazily withdrawing with its treasure of pebbles and small crustaceans; the cheeks pink and softened by wind and salt air; head giddy with crisp, fresh air; and lips ever so slightly salty to the touch of the tongue, like the sea air has spent the day peppering your face with tiny salt kisses.
Yes. Yes, these are very good colours indeed, my friend. :)

Oh, I LOVE the photo of your ocean and your description, Sam! Perfection. You captured the mood and essence brilliantly. I now want to jump into your photo a la Bert and Mary Poppins and be at the ocean and beach.

I think I have the most liberal and benign Facebook feed ever. I am thankful for that every time I see a post like this. :(

I think mine is a combination of extremes on either side of the political spectrum: Very conservative friends om high school and very liberal friends from college and beyond. This causes fireworks at times (lately more often than not since we are in the early stages of the US Presidential election cycle). When the mud starts flying, I usually duck. lol
