Walking down the aisle…

I could stare at this all damn day. Kurt and Brittany both just look so light and happy, like they could float away if they didn’t have one another to hold on to, and Blaine and Santana look so fucking intense, completely grounded, amazed at the joy they are allowed to have, utterly focused on the people they love that are waiting for them at the end of the aisle.

I just got really emotional thinking about that Glee wedding. Because Glee was originally conceived of without any queer characters. And then Chris came along, and they changed direction - and then he was amazing, and there was a huge fan response and the character became more and more prominent.

Then? They wrote this “oh the bitchy cheerleaders are fucking” joke and fandom latched on, and fought for it, and Naya fought for it, and we got real, amazing stories for Brittana. And the amazing skill of those actresses (and yes especially Naya in s2) is so much of my it became so popular and prominent. 

I don’t really believe that Blaine was only ever supposed to be in a few eps. I think they wanted to have the freedom to cut him if the response wasn’t there, but I think the arc was planned. But the audience response to Blaine was so incredible and enormous and that is why he became such a major character, stayed on, let us love him, even with his dark side.

The willingness of the creators of Glee to listen to audience response, and work with the cast, and have flexibility has given us so much wonderful stuff. And I get why people find some of the shout outs awkward, but I really don’t think Brittana would exist, or certainly not in anything like this form, without fandom, so hell yes have Santana give everyone OTP hats. Klaine is shaped by it too, but I think to a lesser extent overall.

It makes me think of the How I Met Your Mother ending. Because people loved Ted and Robin so much, the creators decided to go with it - but then they didn’t stick with it, didn’t develop it in such a way it was still what people wanted 9 years later, no matter the proof they were always going there. Whereas, while there is a little bit of Glee left, with these couples shaped of audience desires, I think they’ve done a wonderful job of making them complex, and interesting, and given them hurdles, but I really think it does make sense for them to be together, here as the end runs towards us.
