DYI: Natural Rose Perfume
If you’re a lover of all things rosy, especially perfumes... here’s how to create your own all natural perfume with all the aromatherapeutic benefits + a dash of little magic. Most important of all, without any chemicals or artificial components that so often give us a headache or nausea.
I’ve always preferred creating my own cosmetics since I have such specific preferences and standards, plus I want to know everything about the ingredients in my products, and it’s so much more fun tailoring them to exactly suit your needs! Anyone can prepare this perfume using the below recipe as base.
I’d love to one day open a shop to include such perfumes in the catalogue, using only organic ingredients and the dreamiest packaging...
Perfume:
- rose essential oil/absolute: 5-15 drops.
- alcohol base (refined alcohol, ie. min. 90%): 30 ml.
- optional - rose crystal quartz chips & glitter for extra magic (like in my perfume above).
- mix in desired bottle, let ingredients steep for several weeks.
Roll-on perfume:
- rose essential oil/absolute: 5-15 drops.
- for base, you can use either of these: rose oil (lightly scented), jojoba (no scent), or grapeseed (also unscented): 30 ml.
- mix in roll bottle, use as desired on pulse points right away.
Solid perfume:
- wax, for base: 8 g.
- rose essential oil/absolute: 3 drops.
- rose oil, to soften mixture & hydrate skin: 2-4 drops.
- optional - add any additional essential oils or vegetable oils*.
- mix all and heat over stove until it melts together, pour in recipient, and you’re done!
Notes: for choosing the rose essential oil or absolute, the ingredients list should only contain “rosa damascena”. Essential oil is better than absolute, as it has a higher concentrate and so stronger fragrance. Essential oils (diluted in a little oil of course) should be tested on the skin to make sure you don’t have a reaction to it, since every body is different. *You can add any preferred essential oils to the above recipes; fragrances that blend with rose are ylang-ylang, sandalwood, jasmine, palmarosa, geranium, etc. Lastly, you can increase/decrease the quantity or intensity of the perfume, just make sure to follow this: 5% essential oils, 95% base.
