Crimson Peak stars Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain spoke with Hypable at San Diego Comic-Con about their scary new film, and their own fandom interests.

Hiddleston, Chastain and co-star Mia Wasikowska were on hand to discuss new horror flickCrimson Peak from director Guillermo del Toro. But Comic-Con has also become the hottest spot for fans to meet the stars and creators of their favorite fandoms. We asked Tom Hiddleston, who plays the secretive Sir Thomas Sharpe in Crimson Peak, who he was most excited to see at this year’s Con. “I’m sorry I missed Bill Murray. I heard he was here the other day. I’ve never met Bill Murray and I’d like to; I think he’s a fairly cool cat.”

Given Hiddleston’s experience as part of a huge franchise, we suggested that the Star Warscast and crew might be fun to meet. “It’d be pretty cool to meet those guys, wouldn’t it?” he agreed, before adding, “The original trio.” And wouldn’t that be the perfect opportunity for him to offer himself up for one of the upcoming Star Wars anthology films. He laughed, “I don’t know about that. But we’ll see.”

Chastain, who plays Lady Lucille Sharpe, began by lamenting the lack of Comic-Con cosplay. “But I’ve been told, in the convention center, that’s where I’m going to find my people,” she said. She added that she had considered throwing on a mask and going incognito, but that she thought her glamorous outfit might give the game away.

And if she could choose her own cosplay disguise? “Princess Leia in the outfit with Jabba the Hutt. With the neck-chain and the bikini, yes! That or Brienne of Tarth, but I’m not very tall, so that could be a problem. I’d have to wear stilts.”

Chastain had no problem listing off her fandom interests when we asked what she was most excited for at Comic-Con. “Game of Thrones, Star Wars… Outlander, I’m a new fan of that show. Have you seen it? The first season — that is a hot show. The end of the second season was tough on me, I was not expecting that journey to happen. I have complicated emotions.”

Crimson Peak stars Mia Wasikowska as a young woman who marries a secretive stranger (Hiddleston) and begins living in her new husband’s decrepit, mysterious house, which he shares with his sister (Chastain). Of working with director Guillermo del Toro, Wasikowska told us, “He makes you feel really at ease, and wants you to feel like you own your character and that your opinion is important.”

Chastain also told us that to help her prepare for her role, del Toro wrote a 10-page-long character biography for her. “And at a rehearsal with Tom and Guillermo in London where we had our biographies and we were talking through them and reading them, I asked him [Tom] and said, ‘Please don’t read anything in your biography that you wouldn’t let your sister know. I only want to know things that Lucille would know. Keep your secrets.‘”
