Westley—that is, Cary Elwes—talks about PB-themed weddings and why even Brits like the 1987 film he starred in.
27 years after The Princess Bride appeared on the silver screen, Cary Elwes (the beloved character ‘Westley’) has co-authored a book about the making of the film. It’s called, of course, As You Wish.
One thing I’d like to know: is this is a kissing book?

On the initial reaction to the film when it was released in 1987
Fox pulled the trailer. They were actually stumped, the marketing department, God bless 'em, because they'd never come across a film that had so many genres in it. Was it a comedy? Was it an adventure film? Was it a kids film? Was it a fairy tale? Was it an adult movie? And of course, it was all of these things, you see. And they didn't know how to pitch it. The film came and did some modest business — respectable, modest, but not the kind of money that they hoped.
It wasn't until about almost a decade later when VHS came out that the film found its legs again — from a film that had been mostly dead, it was suddenly alive again. And then it became this huge hit. [x]
Cary Elwes shares a first-person account and behind-the-scenes look at the making of the cult classic, The Princess Bride, in his memoir As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride.
3 Things You Didn't Know About The Princess Bride
1. Billy Crystal was apparently too funny to work with.
The director, Rob Reiner, claimed that he had to leave set whenever they shot Crystal's scenes because he couldn't hold his laughter in.
2. Arnold Schwarzenegger was considered to play the role of Fezzik.
However, he was happily too famous by the time the movie got made.
3. Mandy Patinkin considers Inigo to be his favorite role of all time.
One can hardly blame him; in the midst of such a hilarious yarn, Inigo's fight to avenge his father is perhaps the most moving subplot of the film.
