hi everyone. the batter will thicken as the flour hydrates. so start it a tiny bit runny and let it sit ten minutes to idk half an hour and it will be perfect. hydrated flour from rested batter also yields a significantly more tender pancake. peace and love
does anyone know how to make a desicion
never mind i figured it out it's like when tracy chapman said leave tonight or live and die this way
we would be so lost without garlic
take everything i say with a hint of lime
If a felon is president, every felon needs to be able to vote immediately from this moment forward
And work any fucking job they meet qualifications for, regardless of conviction
i love when flowers close in the evening like good night girl i love you sleep tight
A drawing in chalk
my dad, trying to explain the concept of money to me: say you have a sandwich, and i need your sandwich. but i don't have anything to give you. you're not just gonna give it to me.
me: i would just give it to you.
my dad:
in elementary school we had. basically an immersive economics lesson that was "playing City," with different jobs and businesses; it was mostly semi-free time for socializing and selling/buying toys and snacks from each other. one of the lessons we were supposed to learn was the importance of paying a small amount of money into health and/or business insurance, because you had a chance of being hit with the Daily Disaster and a huge bill.
anyway, some kid who didn't buy insurance got hit with a "medical bill" early on, so he was supposed to be bankrupt and have to sit the rest of the game out. the 8 year olds were not having it and spontaneously invented crowdfunding so he could keep playing with everyone else.
kids who don't 'get it' are right, actually
endlessly, morbidly fascinated by how when you're a kid you're constantly having parents, school, religion, media, all drumming it into your head that Sharing Is Good And You Need To Do It, and then you grow up and suddenly they're all like right never mind all that, this is The Real World and it's every bastard for himself
Has anything actually gotten better, for all the work you talk about doing? Or is it just treading water in misery forever?
Anon, ten years ago gay people couldn't get married in large parts of the US. AIDS was an almost certain death sentence when I was in high school. I was looking at job boards the other day and found a part time gas station job that had health insurance as a benefit, which NEVER would have happened 15 years ago. When I was a kid, hitting your child was extremely normalized in the US and my parents were the weird ones for not doing it. There is a vaccine for chicken pox. I didn't meet anyone who had transitioned until my 20s because it was so uncommon to transition in the aughts, and now there are some states that protect your right to have gender affirming care provided by your health insurance. It's not all states, but it's better than the number of states that had it in 2010, which was zero. THERE ARE TENANTS UNIONS NOW. WE HAVE A VACCINE AGAINST CERVICAL CANCER.
And all of that has been the work of a lot of individuals and organizations and research teams and activists.
*pretends to be shocked but also maybe this will make people realize that Indigenous People Know What The Hell They’re Doing and Deserve Respect*
3 other fun/cool facts about the Inuit:
1. They also invented kayaks and dog booties.
Dog booties are actually really important for working sled dogs in winter to protect their paw pads from iceburn and keep ice from getting in between their toes and burning them that way.
2. The traditional Inuit diet is one of the healthiest in the world, and the most balanced for the ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 consumption
Most modern diets consume way too much Omega 6 and not enough Omega 3.
3. Inuit is a plural noun. When speaking about a single person the correct word is Inuk (always capitalized)
For example, “This Inuk woman is wearing traditional Inuit tattoos”.
And she is wonderful
Never a bad time to remember that indigenous people are wonderful and deserve to have a good day.
@cephalopodvictorious I think that your tags are really important to include as well.

i need everyone to know that community is what will save us all in every single way imaginable. you forming a bond with your neighbour or coworker might help them move house or feel less alone or have the courage to leave an unhealthy living environment. you helping a stranger might provide them with hope. in turn, being able to lean on your community in times of need will save you. your broader bonds with your community are the revolution we need. our society seeks to divide and separate us in so many ways but we are all so much more united in our struggles and joys than you are made to believe. we need to hold onto each other very tightly.
Community organizing is asking your coworker how they're doing and really listening to the answer.
Bringing your neighbors the extra soup you made.
Trading spare keys with your disabled friends & fetching belongings for each other when someone's in the hospital.
Texting your exhausted first responder or activist or family-caregiver friend, "I'm going to the grocery store, what can I get you?"
Joining a Buy Nothing group & sharing what you have.
Joining a community garden group and sharing what you know and what you grow.
Turning toward one another with open hearts, over and over.
I'm certain this is on Tumblr somewhere, but I haven't seen it around, so I'm sharing it myself
Ok this one's the best
