The weekly lore book is so funny with Guardian reports. Love these two justifying why they didn't kill the enemy:

Instead of opening fire, it juked backwards and ran. I've never seen a Vex run before, and honestly, I was so surprised, I missed my shot.

+

Saw a big ol' Vex Minotaur hanging out in the shallows. It was far downrange, but it looked like it was leaking data or something from its neck. I fired before my Box Breathing kicked in, so it wasn't a kill shot.

This one got me. I sure do know what you mean:

The Minotaurs were being really defensive, staggering their shields to cover each other. If you've ever gone up against a team of Titans in Crucible, it was like that.

This one is so relatable:

The necklace Vex were wiped out and the others ripped the radiolaria cores from the bodies and took them back through the portal—or they would have, if I hadn't Thundercrashed the whole group.

Thundercrash!!!!

But outside of the funny bits, I am really looking hard at the little details. The changes in individual Vex, for example:

The thing must've caught a glint off my optics because it looked right at me.

+

It looked back at me, then it popped its own juice box and dumped itself into the radiolaria.

+

Anyway, when I moved in to make sure they were dead, I saw little model buildings in the dirt. I'm telling you, they'd been building sandcastles.

+

Right as I was about to draw, the Hobgoblin waved its hand at me. I figured it was signaling an ambush and I looked around, but it didn't have any backup. It waved again, and I gave it a little wave back—I didn't see the harm. Well, it got real excited at that and waved with both arms.

+

It was creeping through the branches and making a little noise—almost like it was laughing, if that makes sense?

There's also a strange focus on singling out Precursors and how othey don't appear to have the collars:

One of those sleek Precursor models was leading a group of normal Vex Goblins. The Goblins all had glowing collars, but the Precursor didn't.

+

Saw them clearly before I engaged: some Precursors mixed in with Nessus Vex. Nessus ones had the glowing mantles from the reports, but the Precursors didn't.

What does it all mean.

It means, my friend, they are finally free. We are seeing what the Vex were before the fated moment they opened the Black Heart and saw the Witness for the first time. We are seeing the genuine curiosity and strife, and just.... living they've been missing out on.

They were never unified before the Witness. The lore tabs have said that there used to be millions of Vex Minds, all different, all interested in separate pursuits. And they experienced a civil war that forced them to conform or die. And many did die.

But now there is no Witness. No need for there to be one unified mind. Because it was the Witness that wanted us dead, and without its influence the Vex are free to... think for themselves. To create their own many, varied shapes.

And it's beautiful.

I'm so excited for everything but the Eliksni story. That episode is REALLY STRESSING ME OUT. lol

Destiny 2 is a silly little looter shooter but also its a story about love and it did matter and continues to matter at every turn. Destiny 2 is the opposite of that post about the love being there but not changing anything. the love is there and it changes everything. we succeed because Elsie tells her sister that she's there and she loves her and she trusts her and she won't leave again. we get Mara back because Shuro Chi loved her. we defeat Savathun because she cares, because she feels betrayed, because she feels her sisters were betrayed with her and that care and love blinds her. we live because Mara learns to open herself up to love and refuses to walk away from her brother again and turns back for him this time. we win because Eramis loves her people too much to fully buy into the Witness and we win because Eido believes there's good in everyone and refuses to live in a world where people can't change. we win because Taranis loved Riven and their children and defied his own nature and starved himself to give them that love. we win because Rasputin loves humanity so much even though he was never meant to because Ana loved him so much she taught him every beautiful thing she knew. we win because despite their differences Ikora loves Zavala and Zavala loves Ikora and they couldn't live without each other. we win because Eris loved her fireteam too much to let phantoms of them ruin that love and she lived because Brya loved her enough to give her one last chance. we win because our ghost loves us. just because he loves us so much. and because we love him. and because Cayde loves Sundance and wants to spend eternity with her. we win because at every turn the characters choose to love and trust and forgive.

I maintain that the dark future timeline was prevented by Elsie by teaching Eris & Drifter how to use Stasis as she had intended - but not because they needed to learn Stasis - because it gave Drifter a fucking therapist - someone who would listen and provide him with comfort and understanding and give him hope - because it gave Eris a fireteam again - someone who needed her and believed in her and trusted her, who loves her enough to stay even though he's been running and planning to escape for his entire existence - Elsie thought she needed to prevent Eris from becoming a Hive god through education but what Eris needed was someone who would support her becoming a Hive god and be there for her when she got to the other side and that wouldn't have happened if they hadn't gone to Stasis school together where they ended up fighting side by side in the snow

It really is all about love.

And shooting bad guys.

And being badass with a sword.

In a loving way to defend the people we love from being turned into weird chopped up art!

But not like Hive love - that's different.

Seriously, Savathun what the fuck?

collecting this addition and also these peer-reviewed (and approved and cosigned) tags by @torobatl

We win because Xivu loved Oryx so much she wants to avenge him. And because she loved him so much she cannot help but love the parts of him reflected in his killer. We win because the Traveler loved the Hive so much it gave them a second chance even though they'd spent the past several billions of years directly attempting to destroy it. We win because Savathûn loved life so much she risked everything just to escape the Witness' clutches. We win because Sjur had shown Misraaks mercy and good will for the first time in his life, and in turn he loved and honoured her enough to follow in her footsteps and make peace with Guardians. We win because Zavala loved his family and Targe loves him. We can even enter the Traveler in the first place because of Mara and Crow's love for each other. We win because we love the Last City enough to keep protecting it and fighting for it over and over and over again. And we win because the Traveler loves us.

The final shape is love.

The final shape is whatever you want it to be.

The moral of this story, the message that The Traveler has been trying to tell all of us this whole time... is that we get to choose.

If the Winnower and the Gardener really are playing a cosmic game with the universe, and the Winnower is all about structure and order and imposed law... then the Gardener, or the Light, is about giving us ultimate freedom over everything we touch.

It was *our* choice. And we chose love. And that's really awesome.

Guardians bake their own cake. And the cake we made was love, and that's really awesome.

Because Datto is very smart, his preview video of TFS shows something that confirms our greatest dreams, despite him saying there's no spoilers in the video (probably because he has no clue who the character is), but this is visible briefly in the corner:

Obviously it was already almost 100% confirmed because of the card from the vidoc so this isn't a huge spoiler to those of us who paid attention, but man. There's something so incredibly reassuring and incredible about seeing this.

Micah-10 was such a small niche lore character, but one that everyone loved instantly. And then all the way back in BL they gave us some backstory about her which was interesting in so many ways; her connection to the Traveler, her life as a little kid on Europa, her gay dads and most importantly her identity as a trans woman which was shown in such an elegant and simple way without making it seem like they're doing this for good boy points, as so much of media does. It wasn't a big deal, it wasn't used to sell products, it's just there, as a part of the story and the world.

And now we'll actually see her and hear her. To know for a fact that she is becoming a voiced and living character in the, arguably, most important expansion is incredible beyond words. They did not have to do this or choose this character in particular, but they did. I can't wait to see her, which I believe we will soon because a "[redacted]" character was teased through the Cosplay Cosmodrome back in April. They should start showing us the cosplay today, though we're not sure when the cosplayer for Micah will be shown.

As always your lore dumps are good food. Thank you for this meal.

A lot of cool stuff shown, my favourite being the strike, but first I want to mention this:

They said that when looking at Ace of Spades they realised they have the potential to make the rest of the deck of cards so this is why TFS weapons look like this and have character portraits; they're a deck! And specifically, these characters were chosen because of their ties to Cayde's story.

Obviously we have the generic Warlock, Hunter and Titan to symbolise the Guardians, but then there's others. Ikora and Zavala are obvious. Bottom left is most likely Shiro-4; hooded Exo with Hunter knives, I'm not sure who else it would be. The hood first made me think Elsie, but the Hunter knives don't make sense then.

Bottom right? That's Maya Sundaresh! Both as human and as Lakshmi-2, as we've learned from Veil Logs. It helpfully also has the Ishtar Collective logo. For those that don't know, Cayde worked as her guard, as an Exo, while she was still with Ishtar on Venus so that's why she's connected to him.

And top right? We have the "neoteric kiyot" cloak with the symbol of the Six Coyotes. Six Coyotes Exo member with ties to Cayde? That's Micah-10. Micah-10 category 10000 event.

Also for those that don't know, back in Beyond Light we got a really neat story about Micah-10 as a child in the lore book Your Friend, Micah Abram and some associated lore pieces that confirm Micah-10 is this kid. In one of the entries from the lore book, Micah is exploring Europa and accidentally alerts two Exos who then end up panicking, trying to shoot the intruder and then catching the kid. Then on one of the raid armour pieces, we have Cayde's flashback to this event from his POV, showing us that he was one of the Exos (as Cayde-1 then). He tried to shoot Micah, not realising it's a kid, then later grabbed them and held them up; the implication here that this is almost certainly the source of his mismatched memories that made him think he had a son. Him holding Micah is what eventually progressed in him simply remembering holding a child and constructing a story to go with it.

Micah-10 is an incredibly interesting character in general, as she is the closest thing we have to someone fulfilling the prerequisites for a speaker; even as a child, she was having strange prophetic dreams where something was speaking to her (most likely the Traveler) and showing her as an Exo. As a Guardian, she has the unique quality of being followed by Ghosts and has the title of "den mother of Ghosts."

She was also illustrated for the Volume VI grimoire collection, the one about Ghosts! Her Ghost Stories lore book is featured there accompanied by an illustration which shows her with a sniper, which the weapon with her image in TFS seems to be:

And yeah the sniper appears to have trans colours which I can't see as anything other than deliberate because Micah-10 is canonically trans! (Link to my post about it with links to a few more posts about it)

Incredibly exciting to see her featured on one of the TFS weapons, especially after she was featured in the grimoire and also in the TFS CE, in the autograph book where she left her own message, and so did the Ghosts that follow her. It's also interesting to tie her to TFS when we're going into the Traveler, given her unique relationship to the Traveler that she's harboured since she was a child. Can she become more than just a lore character now? Please?

Destiny fandom when a minor lore-only character gets one new mention be like: time to write an essay.
