I agree. Another good thing is that it’s a spin-off, at least they don’t get to ruin already existing storylines and characters.

I am glad to find a sceptical post in the tag. Most people seem excited. I don’t share the enthusiasm.

It looks completely like generic anime made to appeal to general audiences just because anime is popular. It doesn’t seem like they are trying to make it fitting for  Dragon Age. Netflix has tried adapting other stories I love and absolutely butchered them.  Hell yeah, another fantasy universe that they can ruin and turn into their own generic show that follows current trends so that Netflix subscribers click on it. Make it more of the same so that it appeals to them as they pick their next bingewatch.

Maybe I have lost all hope for good adaptations. I am sorry, I know it’s too early to tell, but it already smells fishy to me.

(I know everybody likes Arcane  but Arcane actually has its own style. Dragon Age Absolution looks like “yet another Netflix anime” . Plus League of Legends is notoriously bad. It’s possible to transform something bad completely and come up with something cool in the process. But when they take already interesting fantasy universes, it tends to turn out terrible for the fans of those stories. )

i can safely say that in a near future ppl will defend disney’s monopoly on cinema by saying that their directors are diverse (lgbt or poc) and that if u criticize it u are siding with cishet white male filmmakers (such as scorsese wes anderson etc) thus making u bigoted

which is crazy but not really given how progressiveness is used as a shield and a weapon. ppl dont realize that if directors that are widely known and prestigious are finding trouble getting their films broadcasted imagine what happens to independent and new directors lmaoo

Honey, that is already happening.

My friend get rejected for working in disney despite of having recommendation and over qualified even, due to her working visa type is not really "match". Maybe that's just the rule but so much for they being proud over their Raya movie for celebrating southeast asian culture and diversity, they made it hard for the real southeast asian human to work there.

^^Yep. Obviously these big corporations do it all for the appearances and the money. This reminds me of how much they love to film in my country (Netflix especially) because the filming locations are cheap, the extras, the background workers cheap. So it’s great to use these people as cheap labor, not paying them as much as they would need to pay their counterparts from other countries. Actually getting a decent job would be near impossible. The writers, directors, named major roles etc. are all filled with their own british and american (and occasionally other rich english speaking countries) stars/upcoming stars. Sure, if those english actors have a certain heritage a couple of generations up, then they can pet themselves on the back for being progressive. And they will occasionally also hire already super famous chinese or south-korean actors. But that’s all they do. Unfortunately many americans are buying it and they think this is equality.

(I’ve seen some interviews (youtube link if interested) with the actors and workers from new zealand who were in the hobbit movies and they talked about how even they were screwed over, ignored, not invited to places where the other actors were, not payed the same amount for the same jobs etc. And when they complained and unionized they were threatened that the production will leave New Zealand and the hobbit movies will be filmed somewhere cheaper like Poland or Hungary. lmao those were specifically the two countries they suggested. )
