I keep seeing posts asking Larian to add a hug option for that scene with Astarion. While I understand it, I completely disagree, and I hope it's never added in.

That scene isn't about Tav. That scene isn't about their relationship, romanced or not. It's solely about Astarion, and the beginning of his journey toward healing.

Sometimes I think about hugging and why we do it. I think a hug in that moment would be more about comforting ourselves through an uncomfortable moment, rather than actually offering any comfort to Astarion. I don't think he would have the capacity to fully take it in or accept it. The brain operates at such a primitive level when you're experiencing trauma. Therefore, it's best to hold back and let him be.

He needs to have that moment for himself, alone. To scream for the rage, the grief, the sadness, the terror, the pain. All of it, all 200 years of it. Long before he met Tav and the gang.

It's perfect as it is, and when he's ready he comes to you and thanks you. Perhaps a hug option at that point would be more appropriate? But again, I feel it really isn't necessary. It's already perfect.

You can be traumatized AND horny

Yes, this is about Astarion. What I noticed is that people seem to stumble over Astarion's many party interactions where he flirts or is generally horny. Like for example when in a Durge playthrough he offers to show Alfira his tent. It seems to counteract the fact he doesn't want sex because of his trauma.

There's three possible explanations to this. First, he flirts on instinct because he was trained to. Second, it's all just banter and bullshit. But I personally believe him. My take is that he really is horny. He wants to reclaim his body so bad. Now that he's free and amidst of attractive people he wants to try everything. That's why he also always runs head first into things he's not ready for. Like the drow twins incident.

He especially wants to be intimate with Tav. Underlined by him saying "it sounds like a challenge" when you offer an asexual relationship. He probably fantasizes about it a lot. But he can't. His psyche blocks him and he's probably so mad about it. But there's no way around so he has to wait, despite patience never having been one of his strengths.

What you want and what your psyche decides is best for you can and do differ often. They are not seamlessly linked. They even counteract. And you are in the middle trying to find a compromise and just trying and trying again until it finally works once, just to be set back the next time.

Tldr: Recovery is a chaotic mess.

I'm kinda pissed about this. What is wrong with having one companion that's just looking to have some fun and use you like a piece of meat? A no-strings-attached, Tinder-like hook-up and she struts off after having her way with you and it's only later on she starts catching feels?

We all want Astarion to get cured and walk in the sun but idk.

I kind of like how the game acknowledges that sacrifices are made when you do the right thing, that sometimes things remain horribly unfair and the terrible things that happened can't always be undone, but you can still live with it, still find a way to find happiness.

But good God Larian, please patch that ending scene!!
