We always talk about how James thinks he is too much and Regulus thinks he’s not enough, but may I propose the opposite? James, who is constantly living for others, afraid that he isn’t good enough for them so he burns himself out trying to be energetic and positive, while there’s Regulus, who is afraid that talking about his emotions and feelings too much will scare people away and will make them realize how different he really is from the rest of them, so he shuts himself out.

Regulus has a fear of being too much, that’s why he is so closed off. James is afraid of not being enough, that’s why he puts himself out there

Ducks!Marauders (a crack microfic series)

Based off an anonymous request that started this microfic and now it has taken on its own life because people keep requesting more....

"Evans!" James called, running up to the redhead in question, sweating slightly.

She turned, looking at him appraisingly. "Potter. Why do you have a duck in your hands?"

She didn't even look surprised, was the thing. Internally, James wondered if they'd taken that ability from her long ago. "Erm...you had plans with Remus, right?"

"Yes..." Lily agreed, looking suspicious. "But he's late."

"So he never made it to you?" James confirmed with a nod, already turning to run in the other direction.

Lily, however, seemed to need more information. "Potter!"

James turned back around, skidding to a halt. "Yes?" he asked, trying to arrange his features in an innocent expression.

"Tell me that duck isn't Remus," Lily almost begged, looking slightly terrified.

Instantly, James relaxed. Because he didn't have to lie. "Oh! It's not!" he assured her before running off.

As he ran, however, the duck in his arms honked angrily.

"Shut it, Pete, there's no way I'm asking her for help!" James argued with the indignant duck, clutching it firmly.

Another honk made him snort in return.

"Fine! Fine, I'll ask someone. But...not yet. Give me some time!"

The duck did not look pleased.

He would've known that voice anywhere.

Even though it had been weeks since Regulus had told him to go, since they'd argued over him going back to his parents' during break. Weeks since the shorter boy had insisted that he didn't need help. That he was fine. That he wanted to be left alone.

He'd never stopped hoping. Caring.

So when his phone rang at 2:18am and the only voice he wanted to hear came through the speaker, James had immediately sat up. Ran towards the door, shoes half-on. Sped towards Grimmauld Place, the needle of the speed gauge closing in on 150kmph.

But it was worth it. As he sped to a stop in front of the horrid-looking townhouse, the door flew open and a distraught Regulus tore up the path, throwing himself into James's awaiting arms.

"I've got you, love," James murmured into dark curls, allowing Regulus to sob into his arms. "You never have to go back."

MARAUDERS GIRLS HCS!!

  1. lily evans is a vegetarian; the idea of eating something that once lived makes her feel sick.
  2. mary macdonald always wears colour coordinated outfits, there’s always that perfectly equal amount of colour and the colours always go together perfectly.
  3. marlene mckinnon is a bedtime procrastinator, she rarely goes to bed on time.
  4. mary 100% does pre-shower makeup and has been walked on multiple times whilst doing so (she tries to hide in the bathroom but marlene has a weak ass bladder so sometimes barges their way in lmao).
  5. mary is the worst for education related procrastination (so real).
  6. dorcas meadows has a variety of hair beads and will always match them with her outfits. bonus: marlene finds the way her beaded braids sway mesmerising.
  7. lily loves pink but hates pink clothes.
  8. mary is aromantic. she thought crushes were just people you randomly selected and has way too much fun pretending to romantically like people whom she actually just thinks are fit.
  9. lily is demiromantic and has never understood hallway crushes
  10. dorcas is partially deaf and is fluent in sign language (she wears pretty green hearing aids).
  11. in third year, pandora actually frequents the hospital wing more than remus. it’s mostly because of all her experiments. progressively, the visits lessen as her experiments grow more and more successful (doesn’t stay that way..)
  12. firm believer that pandora was a conspiracy theorist and disliked the usage of wands because she thought they were made to limit power. she began learning wandless magic in her free time.
  13. lily was fucking powerful and a brilliant witch, but struggled heavily with the cultural aspects of the wizarding world because she was muggleborn. therefore, she started a casual tutor session for first year muggleborns so that they could get to grips with this new world and all it’s practices.
  14. she/they marlene mckinnon supremacy!!
  15. pandora was a ravenclaw and i refuse to accept the hc that she was a slytherin, it doesn’t fit with my idea of her character.
  16. pandora is incredibly unorganised so dorcas made her a lil schedule <3. for the larger part, it was to help, but it was also for dorcas’ sanity.
  17. adding onto that, ocd!dorcas. i feel like she’s so passionately against blood supremacy that she sometimes has intrusive thoughts in relation to it. plus, she loves the tidy and perfectly planned lifestyle because it gives her a sense of control and balance. marlene’s chaotic, careless personality was actually a massive factor in their whole enemies to lovers thing but she actually ended up being a big support for dorcas because they were always willing to help ease her irrational worries and fears.
