"Are you sure this will work?" Mary asked skeptically, eyeing the bottle with the swirly liquid in her hand.
"Of course it will! Don't you trust me?" Marlene replied, batting her eyes. She was met with silence.
"You wound me, Mary dear," Marlene replied overdramatically, hand over her heart.
"Just do it already!" Sirius urged. Mary took a deep breath and swallowed the entire contents of the bottle. She immediately felt warm, paired with a surge of boldness. She nodded, deciding she was ready.
"Heyyy Lily," she called. The other witch looked up from the book she was reading and smiled.
"I fancy you," Mary said with amazing ease, "Will you go to Hogsmeade with me?"
"Oh," Lily said, face flushed almost as red as her hair, "Y-yes, I will."
"Its a date!" Mary said, winking. Sirius and Marlene high-fived from where they were spying on the two witches.
"Where'd you get the felix felicis by the way?" he whispered to her. The blond laughed.
"It's just butterbeer actually. You know I'm shit at potions."
"What?! You mean-"
"Yeah, because I knew I was right about them. Mary didn't need any luck." Marlene grinned, glad her two best friends would finally stop fucking dancing around each other.

marylene minor angst with a happy ending - 7.7 k words
“I broke up with Sirius.” Mary said, pressing the heavy wooden door to the dorm room closed behind her.
From her bed, Marlene looked up in alarm; eyes wide, body still, and the quidditch magazine she was reading had fallen through her hands, down onto her mattress. Across the room, Lily gasped. She was braiding her hair at the vanity when Mary had walked in, and turned around with an expression so similar to Marlenes, however, her eyes had more sorrow than Marlenes had.
Mary shrugged, moving into the room to sit on the end of Lily’s bed, closest to the both of them. She grabbed the fluffy stuffed bunny that had been discarded in the early morning rush and dropped onto the floor, popping it in her lap to play with its floppy ears, “It’s over… He was sad, but I think he fancies someone else anyway. Or at least he’s starting too. As strange as it sounds, I hope Sirius gets his way, they’d be much better together than he and I.”
